Default device for FindMy app

My wife has an iPhone 11 and an Apple Watch 5th generation, but she doesn't always wear her Apple Watch. When I try to find her using the FindMy app, it ALWAYS defaults to the watch location instead of the phone location. Now, I realize that I can turn off location services on the watch, and that would solve the problem. BUT, I still want to be able to find the watch in case it gets lost.

So, the question is, how do I change her default location (the PERSON'S default location, not the device's) to her iPhone instead of her Apple Watch? I tried turning off "Share my location" on her watch, but that just takes her off of the FindMy app completely. Also, when I go to the FindMy app and go to the Me tab, I am not able to select "Use this iPhone as My Location" as someone else had suggested to me. All I see under My Location is "This device and cellular Apple Watches." It is grayed out and is not something I can edit (see screenshot below). Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi DrDavidW,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to use your wife's iPhone with Find My rather than her watch, and we'd like to assist. Have you tried un-sharing her location and then sharing again using the phone? This article can help with that if needed:

Sorry, I meant to write this message last week. But I followed your advice and un-shared my wife's location and then shared again using the iPhone (NOT the watch), and now the iPhone seems to be the default device! She must have shared her location from her watch at some point and that made it become the default device. Thank you so much for the advice!! I'm so happy I don't need a Genius Bar appointment for this!
