Siri acting stupid

I drive a lot. I used to be able to say,” Hi Siri, text …” Siri used to respond, “ok, what do you want to say to …?” I would recite my message and Siri would repeat it and ask if I was ready to send it.

For the past year or so, Siri responds with, “You’ll have to unlock your iPhone first.”

Ugh!

It also takes a very long time for Siri to respond too, the progress icon just spins and spins, sometimes not able to respond.

Whats wrong with my phone???

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 12

"We understand you're no longer able to use Siri while your iPhone is locked. We'd be happy to provide information to help you with this."

Ha ha ha, IMO, they missed the question. Iphone 8s doesn't have Face ID as far as I know.

I had to do this on my iPhone 8:

GOTO - SETTINGS > SIRI & SEARCH > Allow Siri When Locked

IF it is turned off, turn it on and your problem should be fixed.

If that doesn't help, you may have bigger issues, and I know not what they be.

I had the same issue pop up and this fixed it for me. I don't know how it turned off. But ... I may have done it myself. Can't seem to not poke things with my fingers when they are turned on, trying to get some privacy.

AS far as taking long time to connect, depending on your cel or wifi network connection, SIRI may take a while to connect.

Hope you are all well.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Environmom!

We understand you're no longer able to use Siri while your iPhone is locked. We'd be happy to provide information to help you with this.

Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and scroll down to make sure Siri is enabled for access when locked.

Siri may take a bit to respond if you're in a low signal area.

We hope this clears things up.

Have a great day!

I have an Xs, and yep, I checked to make sure Siri was enabled on Lock Screen. As far as taking a long time to respond, that too used to be much faster. I have the same carrier, Verizon, and yet almost every request takes a while. I even get, “still working on it” from Siri, sometimes several times. Maybe that’s due to poor Verizon signal but it happens most of the time now. Seems like everything has gone to **** since Covid. Chelsea Handler said we are in the apocalypse, and I’m beginning to believe it.

thanks for the well wishes, hope you are doing well too 😊
