iMessage documents and data

Hi All

I have an iPhone 11 Pro running 15.3.1.

My problem relates to iMessage documents and data using 25gb of storage. However when I try and delete the items in the General, iPhone storage, "messages", "documents" then the sub menu items (like photos, videos, top converstaions etc) there is only 10mb in data. This is with iMessage off in my iCloud backup.

When I turn imessage on in my iCloud backup, the "other" sub menu item (ie General, iPhone storage, messages, other) all of a sudden shows 25gb of data. But again when I go into :other" there are no items.

I have tried everything (even restoring it from a backup), but the data stays at 25gb and I still can't delete the items.

Can anyone help me.

Cheers

muzrinaudo,

We appreciate the additional details! If you open the Messages app and scroll to the very bottom of your message threads, do you see an alert there similar to "Downloading Messages from iCloud"? If so, you'll need to connect to both power and a strong, trusted Wi-Fi network and allow that process to finish. Once it does, you should then see the attachments to remove. A bit of information can be found under "About your Messages and Voice Memos data" here: About missing information after you restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iCloud Backup

Best regards.

Hello M,

Thanks for participating in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're unable to find storage being used by the Messages app, and would like to delete it to free up space. It sounds like this data is coming from the attachments within the message threads. To delete the attachments, take a look at the steps under "Delete texts and attachments in Messages" here: Manage your iCloud storage

Keep us posted.

Take care.

Thank you Tammy for your reply.

The problem is no attachments show up to delete (so I can't delete them).

Message data storage on my iPhone is causing the issue, but for whatever reason it doesn't show up to delete. Even if I delete old conversations the data stays. This started to happen when I allowed iCloud to backup my messages. It it seems for some reason my phone is keeping the messages instead of uploading them to iCloud.

Cheers
