Sharingd pop-up still pops up after upgrading to Monterey

Hi, someone suggested here somewhere that upgrading to a new version of Mac OS might solve the problem of the sharingd pop-up popping up. Unfortunately it's not the case, though it only shows itself for a second now and then it's gone...

I'm not keen on installing 3rd party software to fix it, so has anyone been lucky so far in removing it without doing this? I tried a lot of the other suggestions put forward in the community, but to no avail.

Thanks!

Em

Hello EmAug,

We understand that you still need some assistance regarding your previous post: Pop ups

When it comes to repeat password prompts, we'd recommend the following steps on this article: If your Mac keeps ask for your keychain password

  1. In the Keychain Access app on your Mac, click “login” in the Keychains list.
  2. Choose Edit > Change Settings for Keychain “login.”
  3. Select the “Lock after” checkbox, then enter a number of minutes.
  4. If you want to require a password each time the computer goes to sleep, select the “Lock when sleeping” checkbox.
  5. Click Save.

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your help! I followed your instructions and it seems to have worked.

I didn't know the pop-up had anything to do with the keychain and at first was struggling to find what you were referring to.

So I tried the other suggestion first and unchecked the box next to Filesharing in Preferences > Sharing. This helped only a bit: the pop-up pop-up but just for a flash second.

Your suggestion seems to have sealed the deal.

For the sake of completeness and for future reference this is the message (see below) I was talking about.

It's in my native Dutch which roughly translates into: "Do you want the app Sharingd to accept incoming network connections". And something about changing the settings in Preferences > Firewall (which does not work).

Thanks again for your savvyness!

Em

Dear mr. Phillips,

Thank you so much for your quick reply and help. And help it did.

See my answer to Shannon. If it didn't completely make it go away, it was as good as gone.

I still think it is weird they way it suddenly appeared.

Thanks to you I know a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes of my Mac.

And if something like this were to happen again, I know a few more places to go look.

Cheers,

Em
