Are you saying when you start up your Mac it does not go directly to the Desktop?
Double-check System Preferences > Security & Privacy > FileVault and make sure it's not enabled.
Is there more than ONE user account this computer ?
Is a Guest Account enable on this computer ?
This can Only be used if FileVault is Turned OFF and If there is Only ONE USER Account on this computer. If Guest Account is enabled - this too must be Turned OFF.
Both condition are required
As passwords are part of the security, (in case your computer is stolen or accessed), you may just want a less annoying way of logging in. If you have an Apple Watch, you can set your computer to automatically log you in if you are wearing your watch and are close to the Mac. Google for instructions. Then you never need to enter your password again.
FileVault has always been Off.
Sys.Pref>Users&Groups>Login Options>Automatic login>set
Failed to eliminate login password.
A few months ago, I asked this same question.
I got a reply similar to yours that solved the issue,
but I have been unable to find that thread in Apple discussions

That's not correct. We have multiple Macs with multiple user accounts and the only time we have to enter a password is when one user logs out.
Hi,
That's part of the built in security. It can't be "turned off."
Sorry, I've always had FV on so I didn't realize that.
No need to be sorry.
Correct, that is what I seek, but computer first loads a Apple logo screen asking user name & password for computer
Confirmed : File Vault is turned off for this device.
I have seen that option before.
I do have AppleWatch and wear it constantly.
So I will look into that method.
There is no Guest account & I am the only User.
Perhaps incorrect: My name in 2-3 different permutations are listed but never used.
