How do I deactivate FindMy / Activation Lock without erasing my mac?

I left the laptop with a licensed repair company but they need FindMy deactivated before they can work on it. The laptop does not boot, so I need to be able to do it from another device.

The options appear to be this:

Erasing is not ideal (I'd prefer to keep my data).

While I would expect 'Lock' to unlock my mac, it acts like it will add an additional lock, so that's no good.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.5

Remove Activation Lock on the web if a device is offline

  1. Go to www.iCloud.com/find.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
  3. At the top, click All Devices.
  4. Select the device that you want to remove from iCloud.
  5. Click Remove from Account.
