Unable to add Dell e525w Printer to MacBook Pro

My printer WAS working fine wirelessly, but ran low of black ink.....so I replaced it. Now having printer problems. I decided to delete my printer (mistake???) and am trying to reinstall it. However, when I click on the + sign to install a new printer, it appears to try. However I get this message: Unable to connect to ‘Dell Color MFP E525w (FE:F4:2C)._ipps._tcp.local.’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer? Ink levels are fine, so is paper. I've tried unplugging and plugging printer back in, but there is no change in the error message. Printer says it's connected to my router, yet computer and printer are not communicating. Help? In layman's terms please and Thanks!

system preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > (advanced) > TCP/IP

set IPv6 to "Link-local ONLY"

be sure to close the window and save changes.

This should allow your printer to be seen as an available printer on your network.

To connect over Wi-Fi, the Printer needs to know three things:

1) what network-name is it supposed to join

2) what is the password to get on that network

3) how is it supposed to get an IP address (DHCP or manual at a specified address)

There are basically two ways to get these into the Printer:

a) fat-finger it in through the printer's "front panel"

b) connect using a USB cable first, tell it the stuff, then disconnect the cable

without all three of these, it can't join your home network, so it can't be 'discovered'.

MacOS has a great feature called Discovery protocol. It uses IPv6 set to "link-local only" to snoop around you local network and discover Printers, File sharing , and similar resources.
