AirPods 3 Battery Percentage Not Showing in Big Sur

My AirPods 3 has never shown their battery percentage on my work 2018 MBP 13" running the latest version of Big Sur. My old AirPods show up fine. Both show their battery percentage on my iPhone 12 and 2020 iPad Pro 11".

macOS Control Center:

macOS Bluetooth Menu:

Note the generic Bluetooth icon and not an AirPods icon. I've also had it show up as a generic headphone icon.

In the Bluetooth System Preference, you can still set the AirPods 3 options ("Automatically With AirPods", "Automatic In-Ear Detection" and "Connect to This Mac:") so the macOS knows these are AirPods.

On my Mac I've reset the Bluetooth module, removed all Bluetooth devices and re-added them, and still no-go. I've reset the AirPods 3 to factory as well and re-added them and that made no difference.

Does anyone have any advice to offer here?

Refer to the Following....

Q1. "My AirPods 3 has never shown their battery percentage on my work 2018 MBP 13" running the latest version of Big Sur. My old AirPods show up fine."

A1. Provide your Feedback:

Do your Part: Inform Apple of your feedback. Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more feedback thy receive from its users, the more likely they will know what needs to be fixed.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Application/Utilities" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Comment: on when you came across this issue and hoe you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the link to this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253708786?page=1
  5. Proceed from there as necessary.

Q2. "Note the generic Bluetooth icon and not an AirPods icon. I've also had it show up as a generic headphone icon.

A2. Verifying Genuine AirPods:

  1. Get the Serial Number: Find the Serial Number of your AirPods - Apple Support
  2. Enter the Serial Number here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/.
  3. View the Results: If all shows up as an AirPod, then you are fine. If not, then these are fake, and that is likely why you are getting the issue of connectivity.

Q3. "On my Mac I've reset the Bluetooth module, removed all Bluetooth devices and re-added them, and still no-go. I've reset the AirPods 3 to factory as well and re-added them and that made no difference."

A3. Using "Reset the Bluetooth Module":

I have the same problem using Airpods 3rd Gen with Macbook Pro 15-inch mid-2105 running latest Big Sur.

The icon only appears as headphone and no battery indicator in control panel too.

My Airpods 3rd gen is original, if some of you wonder about the originality, it works well in my iPhone 12.

Some people suggest to update to Monterey, but not sure this will be the only solution or will just slowing my old machine.

Anybody has tried upgraded to Monterey and solved this problem?
