Airpods pro noise cancellation - Is it for user only or active listener on other side as well?

HI Everyone,

I know about airpods pro noise cancellation is that it removed all background noise for you ( the user using the airpods), but let's say I am using airpods and i am on call with someone.

Does airpods pro removes the background noise around me for the listener on the other end? mainly the noise on my end like washing machine sound or kids playing noise etc, if i dont want that noise to go to another user listening me on call, does Airpods pro active noise cancellation does that as well? or is it only for me ( user using the air pods)??

Thanks MrHoffman, I think I got your point here.

“dual beamforming microphones — in other words, every set has two mics in each ear cup, with technology designed to reduce outside noises and better focus on your voice.”

So this dual beam forming microphones are both in AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 which helps other caller hear my voice with less noise around me And focus on my voice only.

the original purpose of my main question was to decide between AirPods pro and AirPods 3 on the basis when I attend my meetings and I want other people To hear me clearly cancelling noise around me and that is good with both AirPods. But when it comes to if I will hear less noise around me then AirPods pro wins. Am I right ?

You’re conflating active noise cancellation, and directional microphones. That’s two different audio paths. As for the microphones, you’ll get some ambient noise, though Apple tries to reduce that.

Here’s a review with some details on both audio output, and input from the microphones:

What do you sound like? Call your own voicemail, or use the iOS voice memo recording app or similar app, maybe record using GarageBand, and then listen to the results.

The number of microphones in each earpiece varies by AirPods model.

And yes, the “beam-forming” is intended to make the microphone audio pick-up directional.

Microphones have been using directionality for a long while, such as with the three microphones on most (all?) recent iPhone models; the bottom near the speakers, top front, and near the main camera lens array. The front and back (or bottom and back) microphones allow the phone to (mostly) differentiate ambient noise from your speaking voice.

AirPods Pro are fairly good at damping external noise, yes. Not quite as good as over-the-ears like Bose QC35 series, or (presumably, haven’t had the opportunity to try them) AirPods Max. Continuous noises such as fans or motors are well-muted, and local conversations are reduced by AirPods Pro.

You can hear ambient right through AirPods 3.

Depending on your particular ear canals, Beats Fit Pro might be another option to consider.

I have used both AirPods Pro, and Fit Pro, and there are things I prefer about AirPods Pro and like less about Fit Pro, but Fit Pro stay in my ears (far) better. Some folks have no problems with AirPods falling out while moving around. Others do. My AirPods Pro left will fall out if I’m too active, having achieved proper fit test and the rest. Fine while seated, but not while exercising.
