Videos I receive in messenger on my IPAD have always been ok until last week. Now they look ok until I hit play and they are too bright and can’t see detail. On my iPhone they are still fine, just a problem on Ipad.

Other messages and only the hdr are too bright. They are all ok on my iPhone, only a problem on iPad.

Thanks for the reply and additional info.
Let's have you save the video to the Photos app, then play there to see if the brightness is back to normal. You'll just need to tap on the down arrow to the right of the video. Then, go to the Photos app to test playing the video.
Since the Messages app can have SMS/MMS (green bubble) or iMessages (blue bubble), which type of message are you receiving when this happens?
One other thing to check, at Settings > General > About > Which "Software Version" are you using? The latest is iPadOS 15.3.1.

Thanks for letting us know. Are you able to test this out with another video recording? If possible, try recording a video on another device and send it to your iPad via iMessage. Let us know if you experience the same issue.
We want to know if it happens only with this one specific video or any video you receive from a text message.

I wasn’t clear on that, it’s videos I receive in text messages and it just started a week ago. I’ve adjusted brightness on ipad but doesn’t affect video.
Also tried downloading the video and playing it from there but still the same issue.
Did you ever get this resolved? I’m having the exact same issue on my iPad. Only HDR videos. Too bright to watch.
I have this problem too on my 6th gen iPad but my wife doesn’t on her 8th gen ipdad.
