HDR Videos in messenger too bright

Videos I receive in messenger on my IPAD have always been ok until last week. Now they look ok until I hit play and they are too bright and can’t see detail. On my iPhone they are still fine, just a problem on Ipad.

Thanks for reaching out, Jack8094.

It sounds like you're having some trouble with video playback on your iPad. We can help.

You mentioned this is happening with videos you receive in Messenger. Do you mean Messages, or a third-party app like Facebook Messenger? If it is a third-party app, try downloading the videos to your iPad and playing them from Photos instead. If the issue goes away, you might want to use these steps to see How to contact an app developer for support for third-party apps.

If the issue remains, and you're noticing brightness to be the main factor, you can check your iPad's brightness settings here: Adjust the screen brightness and color on iPad.

Give those steps a try first, and let's see where things stand.

Keep us posted.

Hey Jack8094,

Thanks for the reply and additional info.

Let's have you save the video to the Photos app, then play there to see if the brightness is back to normal. You'll just need to tap on the down arrow to the right of the video. Then, go to the Photos app to test playing the video.

Since the Messages app can have SMS/MMS (green bubble) or iMessages (blue bubble), which type of message are you receiving when this happens?

One other thing to check, at Settings > General > About > Which "Software Version" are you using? The latest is iPadOS 15.3.1.

Thanks so much, This info will help with the next steps.

Cheers!

Hey Jack8094,

Thanks for letting us know. Are you able to test this out with another video recording? If possible, try recording a video on another device and send it to your iPad via iMessage. Let us know if you experience the same issue.

We want to know if it happens only with this one specific video or any video you receive from a text message.

Best regards.
