Flashing Light Apple tv, 4K (1st Generation)

I am getting a flashing light on my Apple tv. I try to go through the restarts and resets using my remote but nothing happens. Somewhere on the internet it says to tie to my Mac using a USB-C or Micro USB cable and iTunes will come up. The only connections on the Apple tv are an HDMI and an ethernet. The Apple tv is a 4K (1st generation). I have a new Mac with Thunderbolt ports and an HDMI port. I also do not have an iTunes app on my Mac. There is a Music App. Seems like I strike out on all fronts. Any help for a simple solution? I am not very tech oriented.
