Migration issues from iPhone to iPhone

Today I was assisting a friend with migrating to their replacement iPhone that they received from an insurance claim. Initially, the process started smoothly, but mid transfer, the phones unpaired and I had to start over after waiting about an hour for the data to transfer over. She has over 250GB of data and applications on her phone, so naturally it was going to take a while. Faster forward to the second attempt and the device finally managed to transfer all data, but when the device went to the Apple screen with a loading bar, it was stuck at around 95% and slowly crawled toward 98.999% or something dramatic, after about two hours. I had to leave her with the phone in the hopes that it would eventually come alive. I mistakenly erased her other phone to send back with the insurance, without waiting for the new phone to come up, and didn't create a recent backup for her. She had a backup from December 2020, so I got that device up and running from the cloud backup before her new one moved an inch. Anyone have any idea what to do next, if in the morning, the device is still stuck on the Apple loading screen? I tried to hold down the power and volume down button for several seconds, but nothing changed on the screen at all.

Solavei,

If setting up the new iPhone from a backup hangs again, making sure the new device is up to date can help. See If restore from iCloud backup failed. A new iPhone may not have the most latest update if an update came when it was still in a box. It is very helpful to make sure the new iPhone has the same or a newer iOS version than the original.

To do this:

  1. Set up the iPhone as new (without transferring the data) and update the phone, Update iOS on iPhone. No need to enter iCloud information, tap on you will enter it later.
  2. Once up to date, erase the iPhone in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device], How to factory reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This will bring you back to the set up screen.
  3. Follow the steps to transfer the data again. Note: There are three different ways to transfer data. Your can try a different one if necessary, Transfer data from your previous iOS or iPadOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If the new iPhone is still stuck on the Apple logo, review If your iPhone is stuck on the Apple logo to update then follow the steps above.

Hope this helps.

Have a good day.
