iPod Classic no longer works with iTunes for Windows?

Does iPod Classic no longer works with iTunes for Windows?

I had my iPod Video 5.5th generation 80GB of storage (later to be called iPod Classic).

Here are my circumstances:

Windows 7

iPod Service 12.10.11.2

iTunes 12.10.11.2 (up to date as of Mar 2022)

Windows 11

iPod Support 12.11.3.7

iTunes 12.12.2.2 (up to date as of Mar 2022)

MacOS Monterey 12.2.1

iPod classic works fine in Finder and Music.

----------------------------------------------

On Windows (which ever version), the Windows recognized iPod just fine. It shows up in Explorer as an external drive. Copying file in and out is also fine.

However, upon opening iTunes, nothing freeze, just iTunes open up with blank initial start screen. After about 5 seconds, the iTunes disappear itself just like it was closed.

At first, it happened with me in Windows 7, so I told myself, maybe Apple did end the support for the iPod Classic on newer version of iTunes (12.10.11.2), especially on Windows 7.

So, I create the dual boot on my computer to install Windows 11 just for the sake of my old good iPod Classic. On first connect with iTunes, it seemed there was no iPod driver or what so ever, The iTunes (12.12.2.2) itself popped up a screen saying something like "You want to download iPod Support or not"? It happened only one time so I did not remember the exact word. After all was ready, the exact same thing happened when i connect iPod classic with iTunes, the iTunes took 5 seconds to disappear from screen without any warning. I don't know why?

After dig down some reasearch, the internet said, Apple did not say that they has stop Windows from using iPod Classic at all.

Some people also claim that, just install the older version of iTunes for your iPod Classic.

    1. Is there better solution?
    2. If there is no better solution, so what is the recommended version to use here?
    3. Which version is exactly the cut off support for iPod Classic on Windows?

iPod Classic

As I am a noob and nerd. I am curious what actually is the cause of this problems. It seems random and varies by user on the internet as they share their story.

Apple never said they did ended support of using iTunes for Windows and iPod Classic.

My curiosity went on...

So I booted up my Windows 11, check Apple software update, open iTunes 12.12.3.5, on the menu check for update again, everything is up-to-date.

This time, I connected my iPod Classic to iTunes 12.12.3.5 Windows 11...

Volla.......... It just works.... out of no where, just works... Hoorey.....

-------------------

Story is not yet end...

Again, as a noob and nerd, I wanted to know what exactlly is the cause of the problem.

Is it a .plist file corrupt?

Is the computer authorization plays its role here?

Is it the account associates with this iPod and iTunes?

Or else? I don't know...

With that greatful in mind, I then eject my iPod Classic out of iTunes 12.12.3.5 Windows 11.

Just to test, wait until the iPod screen back to home screen. So I reconnect my iPod Classic again into iTunes 12.12.3.5 Windows 11, this time doesn't work. It just nothing freeze, the iTunes disappear after 5 seconds

Don't worry, I will try again --> iTunes disappear

Reboot Windows 11 (1st Time)

Connect iTunes with iPod --> iTunes disappear

Eject iPod

Connect iPod first, then open iTunes --> iTunes disappear

Open iTunes first, then connect iPod --> iTunes disappear

Reboot Windows 11 (2nd Time)

Connect iTunes with iPod --> iTunes disappear

Eject iPod

Connect iPod first, then open iTunes --> iTunes disappear

Open iTunes first, then connect iPod --> iTunes disappear

Reboot Windows 11 (3rd Time)

Connect iTunes with iPod --> iTunes disappear

Eject iPod

Connect iPod first, then open iTunes --> iTunes disappear

Open iTunes first, then connect iPod --> iTunes disappear

How about goes back to Windows 7 (1st time) to see what is going on?

Boot into Windows 7 with iTunes 12.6.5.3 --> Works fine

Reboot Windows 11 (4th Time)

Connect iTunes with iPod --> iTunes disappear

Eject iPod

Connect iPod first, then open iTunes --> iTunes disappear

Open iTunes first, then connect iPod --> iTunes disappear

How about goes back to Windows 7 (2nd time) to see what is going on?

Boot into Windows 7 with iTunes 12.6.5.3 --> Works fine

I am basically just try to reproduce the outcome from my case.

Now, clearly, my lastest version iTunes 12.12.3.5 on Windows 11 just doesn't work.
