Your best option for a 27" iMac is to buy a refurbished model from Apple. Apple is no longer selling new stock of 27" iMacs. It is that simple. There is zero downside to an Apple refurbished Mac, they are identical to new, have the same 1 year warranty as new, are eligible for AppleCare and you can save hundreds of $$. To find them navigate to Apple.com and go to the bottom of the page and click the Refurbished section.

laddieboy,

Apple has NOT announced anything about new products. You are basing your question on rumors that may or may not be true. In other words pure speculation. On these forums we cannot speculate on future Apple products per the Terms of Use we all agreed to.

In other words, I would recommend that you wait for Apple's next product release and see. Then you will have cold facts you can make decisions with. Making plans on speculations and rumors almost always proves to be frustrating at best.

Best of luck!

"Experts" as you call them are not privy to any other information that you or I are. In other words they are speculating based on rumors. So please take the rumors as just that, rumors.

However to answer your question, only you can decide what the best solution for your needs are. As we haver Zero idea what you use a Mac for it is difficult to make a recommendation. I am sure Apple has a solution for your needs, you will simply need to research what it is. Also, please remember you do not have use an Apple display with a Mac Studio. That means while the new Apple display is very very nice it may be overkill for what you do and you may find a third party display that will suit your needs at a lower price.

I have the same question.lol. I’ve been waiting for the year to get a new iMac 27 with apple silicon like all the experts were promising was coming and now I either have to spend $4000 for overkill or get a refurbished 2020 machine or Mac mini which seems underpowered my needs - I need to run two 4 k monitors and have more than 16 meg of memory. Ugh

should i now wait for an upgraded Mac mini ? Switch to windows ?? Or fork out all that money ???

thanks

Yes. Thanks for your input .

I need to run two 27 inch ‘medical grade’ monitors . M1 had trouble with dual monitor support as I understand.

kind of seems like an important market niche apple is abandoning … more than a mini and less than a studio pro.

but I saw on a cnet column that they were theorizing that iMac 27 may not be totally dead ? CNET.com/tech/computing/iMac-27-inch-2022-rumors/

Don’t EVER believe the rumor mill, period. The fact that Apple has removed the 27” iMac from the Apple Store should tell you all you need to know. As for switching to Windows, go right ahead but remember you’l be buying all new software as well so figure that into your budget requirements. No one here has a clue what you mean by ‘medical grade’ monitors. If this includes medical software also be aware that the M1 Macs can no longer install or run Windows of any vintage.

Thanks very much for all your input.

I guess I’m frustrated that the price for the replacement of my current 9 year old iMac 27 has gone up $1000. I agree I could not get the studio display or perhaps wait for an upgraded max mini or a possible iMac 27 replacement this summer …but I’ve already been waiting 2 years since the announcement of apple silicon and for it to hit the 27’ iMac line.

I just meant I need to run a dual display of 4K or better monitors which was difficult for the M1 chip and would make the current Mac mini a poor choice. Most of my work is cloud based / Citrix systems anyway.

thanks again. I guess the choice is to either wait Until summer or take the plunge now on a somewhat over-the-top system.
