Sorry no, your iMac Pro can not be used as a hard-wired display.

Apple store chat response to the question of use of iMac as a Mac Studio Monitor (15-3-2022-8-35am)

Seems to contradict the view that the iMac won't serve as a Mac Studio monitor:

Nice chatting with you.

Here's the transcript of your chat with Apple Store:

Apple:

Hello, I’m Apple's automated assistant. I can give you quick answers to popular questions or connect you with a Specialist who can help. Some things you can ask me are: "Shopping advice from a Specialist." "Help with an existing order." "Technical support."

Or chat us the topic you need help with.

You:

Mac studio using iMac as external monitor

Apple:

Glad to chat. Hope you are having a great day. I will be happy to help with Mac studio query.

Apple:

Hi, how are you doing?

You:

How can I use a good iMacPro as an external monitor for the new Mac Studio?

Apple:

Thanks for your concern, I can check that for you. Please allow me a moment.

You:

OK

Apple:

Yes surely you cam use the iMac Pro with your Mac studio.

You:

How? old target mode won't work

You:

2017 iMac Pro

Apple:

You need to have a cable, which is thunderbolt cable. I can share a link.

You:

Have cables -- no problem

Besides a cable how does one get the iMac to run as an external monitor?

Apple:

No issues if your old target mode doesn't work. It will work through this cable.

You:

In other words if I connect the iMac to the Mac Studio with this cable it can

function as a monitor? It has worth as a $1500 monitor.

Apple:

It will work like, one end will go in your iMac and other to Mac studio. It will work

as your external monitor.

You:

The iMac has thunderbolt 3 -- is this a problem?

Apple:

Yes correct, it will work and function as a monitor.

Apple:

Yes thunderbolt 3 will also work.

You:

OK -- the sales of the Mac Studio or equivalent depends on this; have seen

Nothing in the 'net discussing this (yet).

Apple:

With thunderbolt 3 and 4 are comaptbale.

You:

Will try to get the sales rep at the local store to demo this before being a Mac

Studio!

Apple:

Yes surely you can. And also you will not regret after being this product.

You:

OK -- ow about getting someone to include this information with the Mac Studio

sales data online?

Apple:

This is the most powerful device Apple has launched. So you can have a demo

as well. And also we have 14 days return policy once purchased.

Apple:

Sorry we do not have the sales information with us.

Apple:

You can check with our service team.

Apple:

If you want I can share their contact.

You:

This is potentially important to the many iMac users -- it needs proper information

publication.

Apple:

Yes the technical specifications, usage and power is mentioned on the website.

However the sales information for every product is not there.

Apple:

I will surely send your feedback.

Apple:

I can understand your concern.

You:

Thanks for getting this "out". There are many of us with good running iMac Pros

that don't want to discard a perfectly good monitor function.

You:

Over and out --

Apple:

You are correct. You should use a perfectly good monitor function.

Apple:

I hope am taking good care of you by providing you resolutions and enjoyable

chat experience. If you still have more questions or perhaps if I missed

Something please feel free to ask. I'm ready to assist you ahead.

Sincerely,

Apple
