AirPods being detected by wife’s “Find My” app

My wife’s iPhone keeps getting a message saying it’s been seeing a pair of Airpod Pro’s (mine) regularly and does she want to add it to her “Find my”…… or something like that. (The pro’s have never been paired with her phone)

After battling to follow some fairly lousy instructions on her phone on how to turn that particular function off and eventually succeeding, I’d like to know why this feature even exists but mostly why - from time to time - I have to repeat this procedure because her phone starts to detect them again?

Hi philf0191,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We understand that your AirPods are visible in your wife's Find My app and you'd like to disable this feature, correct?

You can disable your AirPods from sharing their location from within the Find My app as outlined here under " Get information about or disable an AirTag, Find My network accessory, or set of AirPods": What to do if you get an alert that an AirTag, Find My network accessory, or set of AirPods is with you

"To disable the AirTag, AirPods, or Find My network accessory and stop it from sharing its location, tap Instructions to Disable and follow the onscreen steps. After the AirTag, AirPods, or Find My network accessory is disabled, the owner can no longer get updates on its current location. You will also no longer receive any unwanted tracking alerts for this item."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
