iOS 15.4 notifications not working

this was driving me crazy!

I went into messages via settings and noticed in the area “allow messages to access”, “Focus” was toggled to on. I turned it off then texts notifications and ringtone worked. I then went to Focus via settings to find do not disturb was ticked then was turned on…. Not my doing, was done via update - thanks apple!! Hope this helps someone else.

Check Notifications > Scheduled Summary. This is new to this update and my Messages were grouped in with my other apps so it wasn't alerting for new messages. Either turn off scheduled summary or toggle off the Messages app from the list.

I have been having a similar problem, no notification tones for iMessages when phones are locked, for a few weeks for my iPhone 12 Pro Max and my wife's iPhone 8 Max, both running IOS 15.4.1. We get tones for SMS, but not iMessage. Message Notifications were always enabled. I tried several fixes found online to no avail. Since the problem was just with iMessage and not SMS, I decided to remove our cell numbers from iMessage and FaceTime and turned both off. We could then receive SMS from other iPhones (and Android phones) with a Notification tone. I then re-enabled our cell numbers/iMessage/FaceTime for our respective phones and now iMessage Notifications are working normally. I am not a programmer, but this appears to suggest a problem with iMessage/iCloud and not the iPhone or IOS, perhaps triggered by IOS updates. I hope this works for you.

Just had this issue. Turned out I had “hide alerts” turned on for my favourite contacts - pretty sure an update did that not me! In the messages app, hold down on the favourite contact and make sure it says “hide alerts” (therefore meaning “show alerts” is activated. Swipe left on other non-favourite messages threads and click the bell.

I've had the problem of no notifications for iMessages (I did receive notifications for SMS) for several months. I turned off iMessage and was able to receive notifications for SMS from iPhone users. I'm not sure if the problem is with iOS/iMessage or with the cellular provider interface (I use Xfinity Mobile). With the recent update to iOS 15.5 I continued to have the same problem until I went to Settings->Messages->iMessage-> Send & Receive and set the cell phone number as the ONLY Send & Receive option (NO email addresses). I am now receiving notifications for iMessage. This also worked for my wife's iPhone.

I fixed it by toggling iMessage off for 10 seconds and then turned it back on.

Mine did as well, the missing notifications randomly started started in 14.8.1 but I thought if I update my phone then it would be fine. Alas I was wrong, and the issue carried into 15.4.

So far the only thing that has worked for me unfortunately was to delete all my apps and re-download. I backed everything through a program called iMazing so I can access all my back ups and messages - even export all the media and messages as a PDF. After I did that because I didn’t want to lose anything, I went ahead and deleted all my apps and re-downloaded.

It’s all working again. It’s so unfortunate that this is the route I have to take but I was missing urgent messages and I didn’t know what else to do.

Hopefully there’s a solution in the near future because this is ridiculous. Apple needs to get their sh*t together ASAP.

I have been dealing for months with friends complaining about me not being notified of this message or that call. I checked notifications, focus, sounds, do not disturb....very frustrated. Finally today I decided to fix it. Googled. Found a lot of people having this problem. Tried this. Tried that. Finally...Reset all Setting. Lo and behold. Locked phone. Received text notification/sound. Went to set phone back up, custom sounds, wallpaper, etc. In Messages had to log back in with iCloud....notifications stopped working. WTH!? Remembered a post where a guy referenced iCloud breaking notifications. Logged out of iCloud...notifications work. Log back in. Nothing. Then remembered someone mentioned having to log out of messages on iPad. Was sitting at desk with my MacBookPro and AppleWatch on my arm. All latest hardware versions and iOS/MacOS versions. Noticed I WAS getting notifications on laptop. Closed laptop. Started getting notifications on watch but not phone. Took watch off. All the sudden phone is getting notifications. Reversed. Put watch on. No notifications on phone. On Watch. Opened laptop. No notifications on phone or watch...notification on laptop. Kind of cool but ultimately frustrating. Whether at work or home my laptop is almost always open. I have to conclude this is why I frequently am not notified of notifications when I'm in the next room. Apple needs to add a feature that allows you to either alert on all devices or set one as a "master" that always gets alerted or something. I hope this helps someone else who is dealing with this issue.

I was having the same issue the last couple days thought it was because I hadn’t updated yet. Updated and still had issue. Only thing that worked for me was logging out of iCloud and logging back in! Hope this helps someone!

Same **** issue! This is what Apple support is suggesting… I haven’t done it yet since don’t have access to a laptop ! “Ok, we can try to re update your device via iTunes. Your device is up to date, but re updating your device will force to install a new iOS “

hey, i was so scared that my family was gonna hate me for this being broken. luckily i found a fix, atleast for my situation i turned off notification grouping. somehow that affected how my messages appeared.

Hi, someone posted to go into settings because notifications was automatically turned off for txt. Sure enough this is what happened to my phone 11 after same update. Turned back on and all was good. Hope this works for you also.

Until Apple provides a solution for this issue, you can receive messages as SMS with a notification tone if you turn off iMessage on your iPhone. The message will not be forwarded to your iPad or Mac as it is with iMessage.
