iCloud storage issue

I received a message in photos on my iPad mini that my iCloud storage is full, need to add more storage, there are 4 items not uploaded to iCloud. I deleted multiple items from photos and iCloud storage. My pad and my phone both now show I am only using 34.5GB of my 50GB if I check my iCloud storage in settings, but my pad is still not uploading the 4 items that initially triggered the “out of storage” warning and it is still prompting me to add more storage in the photo app. The devices are on the same WiFi network and I only have one Apple ID. I have powered the iPad off and back on, closed the photos app from background, etc. I do not get the prompt to add more storage in photos on my phone. I have not tried logging out of my iCloud account on the mini and logging back in, as not sure if I would lose anything in that process that hasn’t uploaded to iCloud already. I have read in support that freeing up storage should allow the items that were previously not uploaded to be automatically uploaded to iCloud storage, but not happening for me. Am I missing something here? TIA..

Hi there Patty-O,

Although you've removed items to make more storage available, your Next Backup Size may be too large, which can stop items from being able to sync with iCloud. Use the steps here to check the Next Backup Size: If you can't back up to iCloud

1. Go to Settings > [your name].
2. Tap iCloud. The amount of iCloud storage that you've used is listed at the top. Learn more
3. Tap Manage Storage.
4. Tap Backups, then tap the device you're using. Next Backup Size is listed under Last Backup and Backup Size.

If that's not the issue, follow these steps from How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iCloud:

1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
2. Go to Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud.
3. Tap iCloud Backup.
4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process ends.

Best regards.

Thank you so much for responding! I actually back mine up to my Mac instead of the cloud, so back up space isn’t the issue. I had waited several hours for the photo backups to resume before I even posted my question, but the pad resumed the photo backups at some point late yesterday evening without any other action by me. Not sure why there would be so much of a delay between freeing up storage space in the early morning and the backups not resuming until 10+ hours later, but the problem seems to have solved itself. I do appreciate your suggestions, the support community is so helpful!
