Airplay Macos Monterey 12.3?

Since the last update of monterey 12.3 the airplay function is gone on my mac-mini late 2018. Normally this function was in system settings/network but it is gone so my Mac is no longer visible on my other devices (iPhone and Apple TV). Anyone else have this problem and what can you do about it?

Mac mini, macOS 12.3

The setting is in System Preferences > Sharing. Enable "AirPlay Receiver".

I encountered the exact same problem which seems to have been introduced with the Monterey 12.3 update (the feature worked well in earlier versions). For the time being, I believe the only way to restore this capability is to revert to an earlier version of Monterey. For some reason, I was unable to go back to 12.2.1 (using a bootable installer) but was able to revert to 12.0.1 (using another bootable installer).

Reverting to an earlier version of macOS is not easy. I do not recommend you try this unless Airplay is critical for your needs.

My suspicion is that this problem affects the Mac mini (2018) and perhaps some other models. My guess is that it's a side effect of the Universal Control features (which is disabled by default, at least on the Mac mini).

I successfully installed 12.0.1. I'm now trying to update to 12.2.1 which is where I started before the update 12.3.

This experience has been disappointing and frustrating.

Hello, I have the same issue on my Mac Mini M1. Neither Airplay nor screen mirroring works after the update to Monterey 12.3.

Screen mirroring worked nicely before the update.

Airplay used to work if the computer was re-started from “cold”, but stopped working if the computer had been “sleeping”.

In other words, a somewhat buggy implementation that stopped working all together with 12.3.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. It seems to be a MacOS Monterey problem. If I divert the system sound to any of my airplay devices, then it works, but if I invoke airplay inside Apple Music, it fails utterly.

I have multiple airplay devices and types: airport expresses, Apple TV 4K, and homepods. Music cannot stream to any of them. The system can, however, though only to one at a time.

I have filed a bug report with Apple, but hopefully sounding off here helps.

I am using a late 2017 MacBook. Perhaps it's a problem on the intel architecture.

I also think it is a software problem hence my question if anyone else has this problem.

Too bad they took this out, hopefully this error will be rectified soon.

I will not revert to an earlier version to much work for me.
