Mirror part of desktop?

Is there a way to display only part of my desktop on one external monitor?

It would be analogous to “sharing screens” on Zoom, where you can have multiple applications open and only share specified applications for your participants to see.

so you dan't really want one big "extended desktop".

What you want is more like the 'separate spaces' provided in Mission Control, where one set of apps and documents are associated with one "Space", and you can switch spaces in and out of activity.

But then you want "displays have separate spaces"

we got that:

Maybe this would be easier if you had a "fake Projector" at home/office when you are rehearsing.

Your TV set with HDMI input could do that for you.

or do your rehearsal in an unused conference room with actual projector.

You also CAN do split screen if you need to. [Funny it is already part of "displays have separate spaces"]:

I am opening up an Excel spreadsheet and a Pages document on my MacBook. I only want to display the Excel spreadsheet on the external TV monitor. However I want to be able to see both Excel & Pages docs on my Mac monitor.

For instance, I have my discussion notes for my meeting on Pages, but I do not want the participants to see my Pages documents. I only want them to see my Excel spreadsheet up on the large monitor.

Having separate spaces isn’t difficult. But it’s not workable when you’re trying to refer to a doc in Space 1 while displaying a doc in Space 2. I need both docs to be opened *simultaneously* since I’m trying to talk about one doc while referring to the other doc at the same time — exactly like having a split screen. I’m trying to talk about one doc while referring to the other doc at the same time — exactly like having a split screen — where you can see both screens at the same time and scroll them independently.
