Monterey 12.3.1 External Monitor/Display Issue - No Longer Outputting Signal

After updating my Mac Mini today to 12.3, my monitor now no longer displays an image via USB-C, just keeps saying on no signal on the monitor.

I have tried HDMI and same issue. The odd occasion it will display a picture but once I shutdown or restart the mac mini it does not display a picture. The mac is booting up. I have had to resort to connecting it to my old TV with HDMI connection.

This is so frustrating

I have tried resetting the SMC which had not appeared to work, also tried downgrading the displayport version from 1.4 to 1.2 (on the odd occasion I did get a picture) but that has not worked either.

Has anyone else having this issue?

The monitor I use is a BenQ SW270C.

This is really doing my head in and was wondering if anyone else has got a fix to this.

So this is related to a previous long-standing bug with DisplayPort, which forced all of us to go into our monitor settings and switch from DP1.4 to DP1.2 so our external monitors would work. Apparently in "fixing" this bug, Apple decided that checking autonegotiation was redundant and the user needs to manually fix things.

The solution is to set your monitor to DP1.4. For a BenQ monitor, that is going to suck, because if you don't have a valid source input, it won't give you the display settings menu. You'll need to hook up a second computer to the monitor without macOS 12.3 so the monitor has a signal, then go into the menus (System -> Advanced -> DisplayPort) and switch back to DP 1.4. Your monitors will work.

I'm so happy to have had to troubleshoot this in the middle of a workday. It was problems like this that caused me to switch from Windows to Mac over twenty years ago.

Has anyone received any helpful advice from support regarding this problem so far?

The last advisor (second level, not the "regular" phone support people) I talked to had me try a lot of things, including a factory reset, but none of it helped. He also filled out some form with me and sent it to the "engineers", later he called to tell me that he'd received a reply from them but I haven't heard from him since then (more than a month ago by now) and I also can't seem to get in contact with him anymore because the supportmessaging link I got just shows some error and the e-mails I send to "acsupportcase" directly go unanswered too.

Perhaps for those who might not have found newer drivers

or other links online, with workable solutions for your kit; a

repeat from a few users contributions here. And links from

more recent updates, could help some. (DisplayLink driver

access is related to OWC product, in this presentation.)

There is a partial hardware fix. Plus: links within, to driver

& software (display link, from recent month) to consider.

And the OWC mac-centric supplier of renown again shows

a path could exist with their 'Display' link adapter and driver.

..If you already bought an adapter from OWC, notice new software..

Hopeful this may help some, who keep trying whatever they found. Either

had one, that only worked in one specific time; or didn't get that fix at all.

.& hope this 'quiets' some emails from non-unsubscribable ASC threads.

Upgraded my MB Air M1 to Ventura yesterday. DisplayPort had severe flicker and ghost picture on the LG, TB display was dead.

Networking (EthernetApple Filesharing) also had issues.

Reboot and so on, did not help. Switching to DP 1.2 did not work, black screen.

This morning, plugged all back in, all was back again and TB display works again. So same issue as with previous OS, its not really stable.

Hey everyone, this issue has been plaguing me as well for months, I was on 12.0.1 until like June and decided “I never upgrade what could they possibly break?”

I didn’t see this mentioned, but I found that the “most convenient” fix doesn’t require unplugged and plugging in cables at all. Simply go to the display settings, and change your resolution. For me my 1080p Asus monitor I drop down to 720p, the screen turns on and then just click back to the resolution you want and it should work in that resolution. If you let the display fall asleep though you will need to do this again.
