Photos not going to photo stream IOS 15.4

This has happened many times before but today..no photos are going to photo stream from my iPhone XR. Check everything..iCloud storage has lots of space, photo stream is turned on as well as shared albums, have rebooted, have dialed photo stream and reenabled....still..no photos are copied.

Running 15.4.

I fixed it by turning off HEIF upload.

Go to Settings/Camera/Formats and select "Most Compatible".

I think this is a bug in 15.4. Hopefully Apple will release a fix soon. If you can wait a little longer, hopefully Apple will release a bug fix and you'll be able to get all your photos without reverting to the old format.

Turning of HEIF did not work for me. Everthing worked fine under 15.3, but now doesn't under 15.4. It was not perfect previously though...all square photos turned into 4:3 when going from my iphone 11 to photostream. No response from apple...I miss the Steve Jobs days where they actually cared for their customers, and made cool products instead of marching to the woke agenda. Look at their stock to see how the new direction is satisfying their customers...it's NOT!

This is the intended behaviour. My Photo Stream has always transferred the unmodified originals. The Square photos are edited version. Even with the Camera set to Square, the photos are taken as 4:3 and and cropped to square.

Apple's fix for the my Photo Stream shortcomings is iCloud Photos. It will transfer all formats, and it will transfer edited versions as well.

I rely on photo stream as my main photo library is on my iMac. I can easily add photos from the stream to my iMac and then remove stream photos. If I only use the iCloud for pictures from my devices, when my iMac connects it will copy over 2T of photos which I don't want to happen. I keep my photos on my iMac so I can backup and make sure they are safe.

If I could connect to iCloud without having to copy all my pics I would definitely get rid of the stream...but..not happening.

Apple always delivers half *** solutions without really understanding what the community needs. Very hard to stay a customer.

Ok, so after setting to most compatible, wiping the iphone, reloading 15.4 several times, rolling back to 15.3.1, going back to 15.4, restoring from backup, and taking a screenshot, photostream is now working again. Same problem with square photos though...they come through photostream no longer square even though my iPhone 5 can do it perfectly.

At least photostream is working again! Something in the software was stopping it from triggering from what I can tell.

Good luck tracking that down...

iphone 11 IOS15.4 now!

I've also had the problem on all my devices since the upgrade to 15.4. Same with all my wife's devices so the issue is with the iOS 15.4 upgrade.

After being on a call with Apple for over an hour they seemed to know nothing of the problem so I m not hopeful of it being fixed.

I've got too many photos in Photos on my Mac to want the whole lot sync'd with iCloud as I will have to buy more storage. I use Photo Stream to get the pictures onto my Mac which is the full photo library for my systems. This works for me. Apple trying to get people to move to iCloud seems like a money making opportunity for them and is not benefitting me.

Switching to JPG from HEIC seemed to fix the problem for a while but now it's stopped working again apart from the odd one that seems to get through. Oddly, any screen capture on the phone goes straight through to Photo Stream.

I am having exactly the same results. Also spent a lot of time on the phone yesterday and today. It worked this morning when I switched both my cameras’ format setting from High Efficiency to Most Compatible but now it’s broken again. If Mac has airdrop, you can move the files that way. Works for my phone and iPad.. Hopefully they’re working on fix. Good luck.

You can circumvent the problem by using more than one Photos Library. Only your system Photos Library can sync with iCloud, the photos and videos in all other Photos Libraries will stay local.

I am using a small library for syncing with iCloud and getting my photos off the iPhone and iPad, and only my favourite photos and videos in iCloud. my main Photos Libraries with the archive of all photos are local on external volumes.

That almost works for me. Not sure of the process of moving photos between the ‘iCloud' Photo Library and the full Photo Library store on the Mac because when I read up on it you seem to only be able to have one library active at a time. It would work if I did away with the big library and instead stored everything in file directories but I would lose out on the benefits of photo library. Are you saying you can drag photos from the iCloud library on Mac to the full photos library or do you need an intermediate step?

Thanks for your advice on this.

Had the exact same issue and only today realised it was post 15.4. I could take pics from my Mac via Photo Booth and would always transfer to my 13 pro but never the other way around.

tried the usual , photo stream and and off , icon sign out Bla Bla Bla. nothing.

Found this thread , changed the setting in camera format , cheeky reboot and boom.

Photostream on phone updating as it should and also sending to my mbp.

Bit miffed I lost photostream pics on phone but least my phone and Mac library were up to date courtesy of airdrop so in the big scheme of things its all safe.

Could have saved myself a 45 min mess about though

Here is an update. I was on the phone with apple yesterday for an hour and a half. went through more steps trying to isolate the problem. It didn't work. So we started to gather anilytics from the phone and send them to apple ( This is what the Tech guys wanted). Then I took some screen-shots....whoa the screen shots went over to the my-stream on the phone but did not transfer to my iMac. So the bottom line is that the problem still exists and it has been "elevated" to the tech guys once again. I need to wait a week , next Thursday for another phone call from apple. I am not sure this is a money-grab .....as some people think....it could be but I am not so sure. I think it is something they overlooked and may get it back to normal soon I hope. I think there needs to be more testing and patching with knowledgable people and regular folks too. I do not know who the "BETA VERSION" is actually released to but I think all in all everyone needs to come together to make a really stable platform before each time they release a new update. I will let you all know once I know what is happening.

I have been working with Apple Support and at first they claimed that nobody was complaining. It seems quite apparent that IOS 15.3.1 was AUTOMATICALLY converting HEIFF photos into a .jpeg (which is supported by PhotoStream. However, this automatic conversion stops working with 15.4. The interim fix is to change the camera settings format to most compatible from most efficient until they figure this out. Of course their first suggestion is to prompt me into purchasing iCloud storage which generates $$ to Apple. SMH
