Photos not going to photo stream IOS 15.4

This has happened many times before but today..no photos are going to photo stream from my iPhone XR. Check everything..iCloud storage has lots of space, photo stream is turned on as well as shared albums, have rebooted, have dialed photo stream and reenabled....still..no photos are copied.

Running 15.4.

I fixed it by turning off HEIF upload.

Go to Settings/Camera/Formats and select "Most Compatible".

I think this is a bug in 15.4. Hopefully Apple will release a fix soon. If you can wait a little longer, hopefully Apple will release a bug fix and you'll be able to get all your photos without reverting to the old format.

I know it is a pain for me but I am doing a full reset to see if that works....then installing from a back up..... Also I scheduled a call back from apple to see what the deal is.......we will see what they have to say. as for the full restore...........still waiting for the back up to load........Sorry to say it was a waste of time.....

Turning of HEIF did not work for me. Everthing worked fine under 15.3, but now doesn't under 15.4. It was not perfect previously though...all square photos turned into 4:3 when going from my iphone 11 to photostream. No response from apple...I miss the Steve Jobs days where they actually cared for their customers, and made cool products instead of marching to the woke agenda. Look at their stock to see how the new direction is satisfying their customers...it's NOT!

I rely on photo stream as my main photo library is on my iMac. I can easily add photos from the stream to my iMac and then remove stream photos. If I only use the iCloud for pictures from my devices, when my iMac connects it will copy over 2T of photos which I don't want to happen. I keep my photos on my iMac so I can backup and make sure they are safe.

If I could connect to iCloud without having to copy all my pics I would definitely get rid of the stream...but..not happening.

Apple always delivers half *** solutions without really understanding what the community needs. Very hard to stay a customer.

That almost works for me. Not sure of the process of moving photos between the ‘iCloud' Photo Library and the full Photo Library store on the Mac because when I read up on it you seem to only be able to have one library active at a time. It would work if I did away with the big library and instead stored everything in file directories but I would lose out on the benefits of photo library. Are you saying you can drag photos from the iCloud library on Mac to the full photos library or do you need an intermediate step?

Thanks for your advice on this.

Here is an update. I was on the phone with apple yesterday for an hour and a half. went through more steps trying to isolate the problem. It didn't work. So we started to gather anilytics from the phone and send them to apple ( This is what the Tech guys wanted). Then I took some screen-shots....whoa the screen shots went over to the my-stream on the phone but did not transfer to my iMac. So the bottom line is that the problem still exists and it has been "elevated" to the tech guys once again. I need to wait a week , next Thursday for another phone call from apple. I am not sure this is a money-grab .....as some people think....it could be but I am not so sure. I think it is something they overlooked and may get it back to normal soon I hope. I think there needs to be more testing and patching with knowledgable people and regular folks too. I do not know who the "BETA VERSION" is actually released to but I think all in all everyone needs to come together to make a really stable platform before each time they release a new update. I will let you all know once I know what is happening.

Thanks for your advice on this.

You would export the photos you want to archive with "File > Export" and then import them into your archive library.

With Photos 7 on Monterey we can import photos directly from one library into another library, but this is limited. Sadly, we cannot import photos from our iCloud Photos Library into a mother library, only from a local library.

If you are willing to spend some money on a nice tool, you could get yourself PowerPhotos. PowerPhotos makes it easy to move photos between libraries, even from the iCloud Photos Library, as long as the library is not using "Optimise Storage" with iCloud. See: https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/

Here are some details on moving photos, albums, metadata between libraries: https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/VersionedDocs/v5/copying_limitations.html

This is currently much more versatile than what can be done directly in in Photos 7: Import photos from another library in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

Thank you for this TIP. I too just changed the format and it is working fine so far. Apple Support took a lot of logs off of my iMac as well as my iPhone. I guess I thought it was a problem with the streaming.......now they think it may be the software was switched off that steamed the HEIFF format, that part of the software was overlooked. I did give due to those who deserved the dues when I talked to Apple support. I was told (but I don't believe everything I am told) that the engineres would be working on the problem.

Thanks to whomever found this.

Of course they aren't. They haven't figured out a way to monetize like iCloud! There was an automatic conversion being done in Release 15.3.x and previous that they PURPOSELY removed in 15.4. Do the math, if you now can gain 300M users now buying iCloud storage at a minimum of $12/year, that 3.6B per year of added revenus with nominal cost

At least your senior advisor knew what was happening with iOS15.

I hope so! I’m lucky that the first guy didn’t spend too much time before escalating it. I convinced him pretty quickly that I knew what I was doing.

Sorry to hear about your experience, though. I wish Apple would spend less on TV shows and movies and more on making the software solid and training the support team.

I’m glad to see in this thread that others use Photo Stream the same way - to get photos to the main library on my Mac. I imagine the writing is on the wall, it’s time to find alternate methods.

I've notice the update only partially fixed the problem. Even with high efficiency turned off, Photo Stream only works sometimes.

Same here. No rhyme or reason. I went out on a walk and took a few photos; some went to Photostream and some didn’t.

Oh…and I couldn’t post this via Safari for iPad. It kept prompting me to sign in, even after I had presumably signed in multiple times. Then it wouldn’t accept my reply. I switched to Brave browser and it worked the first time. Nice job, Apple!
