By default notification sound and vibration is turned off in Notification settings. Go to Settings -> Notifications-> Mail -> Sounds -> [choose default sound and vibration].

After that go to Settings -> Notifications-> Mail -> Customise Notifications -> [chose your mail box] -> Turn on alert for mail box.

I have given up on Apple. All signs point to them not wanting to support a third party for emails. My son is having the same problem that I am having on my iPhone 13 not alerting when I have an email. All my emails go through my internet carrier Execulink. My son has exactly the same iPhone 13 but a different internet carrier. The only way to push our emails is through my iCloud account so I have to forward them through my iCloud account which is a pain but after spending hours talking to Apple support, they only talk but can’t fix sh—.

This is a user to user support forum and Apple does not participate here, so your statement saying Apple Please Fix this, is falling on deaf ears.

If you are not receiving notifications unless you are plugged in, it is possible that you have an incorrect Fetch Setting. Try going to Settings>Mail>Accounts>Fetch New Data. Scroll down that page to Fetch. What setting are you using. You should be using one of the time settings. Then look at your account list above there and check their setting. Only Exchange and iCloud will support Push. Any other account needs to be set to Fetch.

ChrisJ4203: Consider my statement to Apple a wish then, just throwing it out there into the universe ;) ... I've got my 2 work emails set to FETCH @ 15 minutes ("immediately" clearly didn't work) and my personal email is set to manual since it is not as crucial as the others. I'm mostly annoyed that my phone now needs to be plugged into power in order to be verbally notified of incoming mail... never used to require that.

This obviously needs to be fixed. It's a dumb problem. I have found that if I leave my mail program on and sitting in the inbox screen or in an email, I will not receive a notification. However if I turn the mail off completely, or at least go back to the screen with the heading "Mailboxes" then I will get notified of a new email. I depend on this phone to get emails for new work daily from clients and it is an enormous inconvenience. Not why it's so difficult for Apple to help all of us. Highly irritating to have clients call and say "did you get my email?"

Your statement to Apple can be provided to Apple by using the feedback link here, Feedback - iPhone - Apple What I was referring to was the Automatically setting. That one only works when the device is plugged in. Needing the device to be plugged in for receiving Mail is not normal. I'm guessing that you have mail set to use cellular data and are not receiving an error message on the screen. The statement you were given that the iPhone has to be plugged in is not correct. I use my iPhone with 3 different mail accounts, 1 Exchange account with Push, and 2 IMAP accounts that are Fetched every 15 minutes, and I get notification for all of them, whether I'm on cellular data or wi-fi, and the phone is not plugged in.

Do you have an Apple Store close by? You could make a Genius Bar appointment for help from Apple. My recommendation would be to delete the accounts from the iPhone, power the iPhone off and back on again, then add the accounts back, one at a time and test.
