Something is fundamentally amiss with that Mac.

Its Displays Preference pane should bear an image resembling a generic MacBook Air with its lid open (example below). Your Displays Preferences shows an image of an external display, yet the system is identifying it as a "Built-in Display". There should also be an additional AirPlay Display selection at the bottom of that Preference pane. It is missing.

First please restart your Mac "Safe Mode": How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support. Determine if the Displays Preference pane returns to its normal appearance resembling the example below:

Then, restart your Mac normally (not "Safe Mode").

If that doesn't fix your Mac's Displays Preferences, reinstalling macOS is justified: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support.

Back up your Mac as a matter of course. To learn how to use Time Machine please read Back up your files with Time Machine on Mac.

I think Apple needs to know about it: Get Support

Before you contact Apple, try one more thing: create a new, temporary User Account according to Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support. In the New Account pop-up menu, choose Administrator.

Log out of your usual Account, log in under that temporary Account, and determine if the Displays Preference pane appears as it should.

When you are finished experimenting, you can delete that temporary User Account: Delete a user or group on Mac - Apple Support.
