Noise interference on GarageBand on iPad.

Got new IPad, 10.2 ( generation 9) on trying to record on GarageBand with only Irig and headphones connected, I am getting interference type noise, sort of sounds like an electronic timer running down, using noise gate does not stop it, have tried 3 different Irigs, but it occurs with all three. Thinking it must be something to do with the Irig/headphone input.

As a side issue, I purchased an Apple camera kit adapter to allow direct connection of instrument via an interface using the lightning socket on the iPad, but although I can hear instrument in headphones, it does not seem to record onto the track. Any advice would be most grateful.
