12.3 compatibility with Xerox B205 Printer

I downloaded OS 12.3 Monterey last week and my Xerox B205 Black and white printer went from printing just fine to printing out just control characters (and using up a lot of paper until I powered down the machine. I also noticed in my applications folder that the Xerox print manager is no longer listed. I went to the Xerox support site and saw no mention of any conflicts with 12.3. I attempted to download the latest update file from Xerox as a potential solution, but received an Apple message that 12.3 detected Malware and would not let me install. what is the fix? AirPrint??

Hi,

The Xerox B205 Multifunction Printer is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model with support for the driverless AirPrint technology. An AirPrint-enabled printer should be compatible with macOS Monterey without the need for additional software, provided that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). AirPrint does not necessarily require a wireless connection, a printer could also be wired by Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of a router.

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

If there are difficulties using AirPrint, one could try the following procedure:

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

It is always bittersweet when you see that Xerox released print and scan drivers for the B205 in June 2020, nothing since, and then proclaims compatibility with Big Sur and Monterey for those same drivers. There is no driver support for this device in the built-in Apple AirPrint support.

I suggest that you contact Xerox support about your Monterey 12.3 compatibility issues with this device. I saw nothing on their site for this device that would warn users about it when installed in Monterey, but then again, since they have not actually tested the software (based on the driver release June 2020 date) with Big Sur or Monterey, anything is possible.
