Podcast Continuous Playback broken in 15.4 ?

Same here, I can’t fall asleep without listening to something either. I hated waking up to discover that my entire list has been marked listened and deleted from my device. Even worse is when the skip forward or back automatically switches to next/previous episode. Instead of going back 15 minutes, all of a sudden you have moved back three whole episodes.

I have reported it feedback assistant more than once and it hasn’t been addressed. I just got sick of it and moved all of my podcasts to overcast.

chatted with apple support and they suggested it may be VPN config conflict. Since removing under General > VPN & Device Management, the problem has not reappeared…

Woohoo, 15.5 has fixed the issue!

Still having the same issue but I have been able to counteract it with the “stop playing” function on timer within the clock app, hopefully can be a good in between for people until it is fixed. I check how long the episode has left and just change the timer to suit

Same problem STILL, and on 16.6! Apple, PLEASE FIX THE SETTINGS APP to not keep flipping Podcast continuous play back on randomly. I go to sleep with ONE episode playing and expect it to end but when i wake up my phone has been pulling and playing continuously and now i have to go re-mark-as-unlistened a bunch of episodes. Seriously, how do you even write code that randomly switches on a setting? Nothing but the settings app itself should ever flip that switch to ON. I reported this to Apple but who knows which year it'll get fixed.

This continues to happen in December 2023 on iOS 17.1.12. Nothing like going to sleep listening to nice pleasant sounds and having My Brother, My Brother, and Me come on at 2 am. (I love MBMBAM but there’s a time and a place.) Clearly Apple has known about this for years, knows how annoying it is, and doesn’t do anything about it.

This is also happening to me. It’s so annoying. As someone who listens to podcasts practically every day, I have to change it back at least twice a week. Seriously thinking about downloading a different app.

I have mostly switched over to Stitcher now. It doesn’t have some features I would like, but it’s better than this.

However, there are still a couple of podcasts I can’t get on Stitcher so I keep Apple’s podcast app.

The latest thing I’ve noticed: IT WILL STILL CONTINUOUS PLAY WHEN THE TOGGLE IS OFF. Before I listen to anything on this app I now just go in and make sure the toggle is off. Now, it keeps playing anyway! Toggle be darned. Great.

I believe the ‘continuous playback’ toggle determines whether additional episodes are automatically added to the ‘playing next’ queue. If episodes are already in that queue when you disable the toggle, it won’t remove them (but it does stop adding additional episodes—until it automatically retoggles, that is).

I think that likely explains what you’re experiencing, though I’m only basing this on what I’ve observed.

Yep it’s broken and it infuriates me. The problem was brought to Apple’s attention months and months ago. I’ve decided to stop using this POS app and will go back to Spotify.

The problem persists in iOS 16.5. Switching continuous play off works for one or two days, then the switch automatically changes to “on” again.

I hope Apple realise this soon because those who listen to podcasts while going to sleep are going to have podcasts playing throughout the night. I find it very irritating. I know it’ll be an easy fix but we just need Apple to become aware of the problem.
