Since the 15.4 update my podcasts have been stuck on continuous play, turning the toggle off in settings does nothing, they just keep autoplaying the next and don't stop between anymore. The external control setting also somehow keeps reverting to the default next/previous instead of my desired forward/back. bug? just me? iphone SE(2020)
Same here, I can’t fall asleep without listening to something either. I hated waking up to discover that my entire list has been marked listened and deleted from my device. Even worse is when the skip forward or back automatically switches to next/previous episode. Instead of going back 15 minutes, all of a sudden you have moved back three whole episodes.
I have reported it feedback assistant more than once and it hasn’t been addressed. I just got sick of it and moved all of my podcasts to overcast.
I have given up and downloaded Stitcher. I went in to turn off continuous play in the settings and it turned back on WHILE I WAS LISTENING. So, I’m done. The two days I’ve had Stitcher has been bliss.

I have trouble sleeping and listen to podcasts. I listen, then get jolted awake when the next one starts. Turned the continuous play off just before I started one this morning but 45 minutes later when it ended another one started! Turned it off again and now I’m headed to bed and it’s back on!!
does apple review these? Where can we complain?!

I have had exactly the same happen as the very first commenter said. I toggle “continuous playback” off, and it turns itself off after a couple of days; I have also had the podcasts just continue to play and when I check, the option is still toggled off. This then usually causes the podcast I just listened to, to start playing again (I also listen to them almost all day at work). I really hope Apple looks at this.
I have 16.0.3 and this is happening to me for the first time. I’ve toggled the Continuous Playback option off at least 3 times in the last week, and today it turned back on again. This is very frustrating. @apple Perhaps just remove this setting if it doesn't work anyway and no one plans to fix it?

It's still happening in March 2023, running 16.3.1 and my toggle switch is off in settings BUT IT STILL DOES IT.
It’s funny how they could probably fix it pretty quickly but nooooooooooooo …. Too busy updating and changing stuff that really is fine as is.
This has been going on for a while now. I've been waiting for a fix for months, but it never comes. It's either Apple doesn't care about it or they are happy with this "feature" and don't intend to do anything about it. This kind of bugs kinda pierces the narrative of quality products Apple is pushing.

I have the exact same issue. I turn off continuous playback and then it automatically turns back on again. I have also had podcasts automatically starting when the tab is clearly disabled.
This behavior continues after the 15.4.1 update.

The ‘continuous playback’ toggle keeps toggling back on for me too, every day or so.
OP AGAIN! Nope, 15.5 didn’t fix it for me, it just reset to continuous playback ON and external controls to next/previous.

Ahhh! It’s the same for me and I’m a big podcast listener in bed to help me fall asleep…..I’ve given up on apple podcasts.
Still no fix by June 2022
I find it happens with certain podcasts - not all of them. I wake up in the middle of the night listening to random podcasts.
So annoying. I will also switch to another app.
I have version 15.6.1 iOS on iPad. Toggling continuous play doesn’t work. Just keeps playing more podcasts. I’ll try Stitcher which I read about here.
