Mac iMessage Read Receipt with No Time Stamp

My friend and I used to text on iMessage and both of us have the read receipt option off for sure.

However, when I checked our conversation on Mac today, I saw the [read] mark underneath the text I sent, but without any time or date stamp like any other typical read receipts have. Just ’read.’

When I checked the iMessage on different devices I use (iPhone and iPad), there is only [delivered] mark underneath the text, as usual, since both of us have the receipt option off as I mentioned in the beginning.

I am especially intrigued since we do not talk anymore and that mysterious [read] mark is right under the last text I sent them. I want to know whether my friend actually read my text, and why I am getting the read receipt with no time stamp. Does this also have to do with being blocked? I looked the same question up on the internet multiple times before posting here but no clear answer was given. I want to know!

Thanks for reaching out, hyk882.

It sounds like you have some questions about how 'Read Receipts' work. We can help.

When we talk about whether a message indicates that it was read or not, this is up to the recipient, not the sender. So, regardless of the circumstances that led to you seeing "Read" on the message, (whether they changed their settings or removed you as a contact, or restored to a previous state before these receipts were disabled, or any other possible cause), then they saw your message.

Time-stamps are not always a part of the confirmation that the message was read, so this is not unexpected behavior.

Hope that helps.

Take care!
