Is there a way to remove someone else’s Apple ID from 3rd gen AirPods that I purchased refurbished?

I purchased a refurbished pair of 3rd gen apple airpods. When I connected them to my iPhone 11, I got a message saying the “Owner of this item will be able to see its location. You’re pairing to a item that’s paired to someone else’s Apple ID. d******@gmail.com. I obviously don’t know this person. I purchased them from Amazon. I tried learn more and it tells me how to add it to the find my app. But it doesn’t remove them from the Apple ID g******@gmail.com. Is there a way to remove them? Or will I have to send them back..?

Activation Lock is designed to prevent anyone else from using an Apple device if it's ever lost or stolen.

Activation Lock is an anti-theft feature that cannot be bypassed. Only the previous owner can remove the lock by using their Apple ID & password. Apple will not help you find the previous owner. If the previous owner cannot or will not remove the lock, then the device is useless to you or anyone else. Try to get a refund (through Amazon) or dispose of the device properly.
