How do I fully opt out of the Notification Summary feature?

My phone recently updated, and ever since then my notifications were replaced by a mock summary that simply tells me I can reduce interruptions by creating a notification summary. While I understand why some people would want this feature, I don't. Notification summary is not currently scheduled nor do I wish it to be. Until I started seeing this notification, which is so important to Apple it goes on my lock screen to trumpet the apps I have notifications for despite my settings otherwise, I didn't even look at this feature. But fine, I know about it now and want it actually turned off for real. I don't need to see a notification saying I can have a summary, especially when it is putting me on blast on the lock screen! How do I stop this notification about notifications settings so I can get back to using my phone?

iPhone 8, iOS 15

This is seriously the least helpful information you could have shared. Apple updated and put it on our lock screens, it’s not “unexpected behavior” or our phones not up to date. It was forced on us and even with all the notifications turned off I still see the summary that is literally just apps. Not to mention this has to be single handedly the least aesthetic feature apple has rolled out. And this is the response your customer service provide?? Does your customer service even up to date on iPhone features? Truly terrible. The feature needs to be optional, there is no reason to force this on everyone unless (and likely so) your greedy company is using this to be paid by apps to advertise them on all of our lock screens. Stop forcing ugly aesthetics on us and let us curate our own phones… what a poor response to a poor feature. Do better.

I suppose you missed the fact that this was caused by updating to the latest IOS. My question is about normal behavior. Essentially Apple is assuming everyone wants a summary and was trying to force it. Toggling the setting did no good, the notification remained and continued to display a mock summary. This mock summary doesn't have the actual notifications, it just lists all the applications you might see notifications for.

As I said this is a very basic thing and normal behavior. The mock summary notification is meant to introduce the feature and suggest people use it. Very normal. What I am asking is how to get rid of the notification without creating a summary, which is what the notification is trying to force me to do.

Hey there, Asukaru!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

One of the best things to do whenever you're encountering unexpected behavior such as this is to make sure your iPhone is up to date. To install the latest version of iOS, you can follow the steps here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you update and the issue continues to occur, we'd recommend that you reach out to Apple directly for additional support: Contact Apple Support

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

Howdy Asukaru,

We appreciate you updating us with this information.

For confirmation, you're seeing that Scheduled Summary is disabled via Settings currently, right? For assistance with locating this quicker, check out the steps below. You can find additional information here: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

To schedule a notification summary:

1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary, then turn on Scheduled Summary.
2. Under Apps in Summary, select the apps that you want to include in your notification summary.
3. Under Schedule, tap the Add button to add a new schedule or the Remove button to remove a schedule. Then adjust the time for each scheduled summary you have set up.

If you see that this is disabled, you'll want to Contact Apple Support to look into this with you in more detail.

Have a great day!

I already said I had this setting turned off when this message appeared. Not only that, but turning it on and off didn't do anything.

I eventually got rid of the message somehow, but I'm still not sure how. I tapped on it but that just took me to the settings.

It's a little disconcerting that I get answers like reset your phone or update IOS when the update is what causes this to happen. This is a basic IOS feature. I think it's been around awhile, too. So the question of how to dismiss the box should be a simple one. Basically someone is making the assumption that everyone will use this feature and they're forcing it on us regardless of settings. Our settings should be respected.

But that's just part of the general trend of making it useless to lock your phone because your emails, messages, and notifications go on blast for anyone to see.

Thanks to all who commented. My lock screensaver is my favorite photo of my deceased husband and I HATED having his face blocked by that dumb notice for the last several days, despite the Notifications Summary being toggled “off” in my Settings. I first went to the only app being displayed (very recently installed) and turned notifications for that app off, then turned the phone off, as suggested. Voilà! When I turned the phone back on, I could once again see my husband’s face 😊. Have a good day all!
