Face ID not working for Apple Arcade activation

Double-click the power button (on the right side, as if you're purchasing a free app). Should instantly recognize your face.

Just FYI, it finally worked by turning off Face ID for ITunes/ App purchases and then turning it back on…hopefully this helps!

I had the same issue with Face ID not working to activate Apple Arcade on my iPhone 13. However I was able to get it to work by letting the Face ID login timeout. Here’s what I did to get it to work for me.

1. Activate Apple Arcade.
2. After you see the app trying to login with Face ID, put down your phone face down. Since it is Face ID I’m not sure if the camera is ON the whole time. It might be.
3. Wait about 5 minutes. Your phone will probably lock, which is fine. This seems to be about the time it took for Face ID to timeout. I didn’t time it, so I’m not sure.
4. After about 5 minutes check the app again. You may need to unlock your phone.
5. If this works you should now see a prompt to enter your Apple ID password.
6. Login with your password and you should be good to go!

I had to DISABLE Face ID for iTunes and App store, activate using the Apple ID password, then re-enable Face ID once it was done. Face ID would not work from the activation link provided by Verizon, but the login and password worked OK.

Go into your settings > Face ID and Passcode and turn everything off. Then do the Arcade thing. It will instantly ask for your password. Once you’re done with that, go back into your settings and turn Face ID back on.

Mine didn’t either. Apparently once you leave the screen the password options pops up. Lol you don’t have to leave a comment here. Just double tap the home button or swipe up from the bottom to bring up all the apps and you’ll see it change from Face ID to input password.

I also had this same problem. I decided to chat with the Apple support team. Though whatever glitch it is isn’t fixed yet. If you turn off using Face ID in the app store it directs you to just typing in your Apple ID password and I was able to activate it. Hopefully this helps anyone still is facing this problem!

update: (for Verizon plan users)

open Apple Arcade

tap your profile (upper right corner)

Tap subscriptions

go down all the way to Verizon plan benefits, then it automatically worked for me. Hope this helps someone!

I had the exact issue with mine and tried multiple ways but I was able to figure a workaround for this, settings> faceid and passcode turn off the toggle switch over to apple arcade in app store and hit Activate now you should be prompted for password and you should be able to activate your Apple Arcade subscription… now you can go back to your iTunes and turn back the toggle on to use face id for future app purchases

Mine didn’t work, but all I did was go to setting, Face ID and password and then turned off Face ID for App Store and then it just asked me for my password for Apple Arcade.

For my 11 Pro, instead of double tap, press the power button twice did the trick.

I guess since everyone seems to be having the same problem I’m commenting to see if it works for me too cause this is super annoying:/

***EDIT*** It works if you leave the Face ID screen up, come over to this forum, and go back. No commenting should be needed but worst comes to worst say “just so it works” and it should be able to bring up your password instead

Finally got it to work for me. I had it open on the Face ID page and then opened another app without exiting the Face ID. When I went back to the Face ID page, it had timed out and asked me to type in my password. Worked.

I have had this issue as well. Received a 6 month apple arcade promo from verizon and when i claim it says continue and face ID just shows up and nothing.

Actually as I typed this my screen timed out and asked for my password................ Not sure why but i think i had it on the face ID screen for a very long time. It will eventually time out after like 5 minutes.

Mine didn’t fix itself as easily as the others. I had to sign in on my phone and that worked then logged back in on my iPad and it worked as well. Definitely a glitch they need to fix. Once one device is logged in all your others will work with no issue. In my case anyway. Good luck
