You can always force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Force Shut down your Mac.

Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

Reboot as normal and see where this leaves you...

If necessary reboot into Safeboot mode, log in and then run the installer again

Q - " How do I force quit a Macbook update that is frozen. Has been frozen for 2 days. I have restarted the update twice to no avail. "

A - Have to ask, is this an update to Catalina macOS 10.15 or an upGrade to a Newer version of macOS this computer Qualified to upGrade into ? This may sound harsh, but some people mix the two which are very different from one another.

1 - If this was in fact and UpGrade to Big Sur macOS 11 = Empty Space Requirements specific to the Big Sur. Apple states 35.6 GB Empty Space but suggest 50 GB

2 - If this was in fact and UpGrade to Monterey = Empty Space Requirements  >> If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44GB of available storage.
