Mail Will not Fetch since iOS 15.4 Update

Since the update iOS 15.4 my Apple mail on my iPhones and iPad won't fetch automatically, as before, even though it is set to fetch every 15 minutes (push is off). If I restart the device it will work for about a day then stop, until I restart again. Is there a fix other than constantly restarting?

You may know that there are two settings (Fetch and Push Mails). What have you set? Watch the GIF below

Google, AOL, Yahoo - Only Fetch mail Option is available

iCloud, Exchange, Outlook - Both Fetch and Push Mail option is available

  1. Push Mail: Whenever possible the email client will push emails to all your devices.
  2. Fetch Mail: You need to set How you want it to be fetched, Automatically, Manually, Hourly, Every 30 mins, every 15 mins
    1. Automatically: will fetch when the iPhone is powered and on WiFi
    2. Manually: with fetch when you open email, open Inbox and swipe down
    3. You get an email notification as soon as the client-server receives an email and your device is connected to the internet, irrespective of whether the mail is in your device's Inbox or not

I called Apple support with this exact same question. The first dozen times I called, they'd run me through the standard checks to make sure all of my settings were correct, which they were every time. Then they had me try deleting and re-adding the email addresses to my phone.

Several weeks later, when it still was not fixed, I called again, and finally they had me send in special log files that they forwarded to their software engineers, and then they scheduled a callback for 3 days later.

So 3 days later, they call me, and they say that their engineers simply said that I have to ask Google support about the issue, since it is Gmail accounts that are having the issue.

I have a strong feeling that Google support will have no clue what's going on either 🫠

I was searching Apple support and came across this post about issues with iPad Apple mail. iPad mail app - Apple Community It might explain what is going on.

I have turned off my gmail account 2-step verification.

I was forwarding my gmail to icloud so I would at least know when mail would arrive. I did turn off Private Relay in icloud settings too.

So far the mail app is fetching again every 15 minutes for two gmail accounts.

3 devices, all looking at Bell IMAP email:

  1. PC running Win Outlook - no issues
  2. iPhone 7 running 15.5, no issues. Syncs correctly, reflects the same as PC
  3. iPad Air 5th Gen running 15.6 is the issue. Doesn't sync correctly, cant access folders below the inbox level. BTW the problems seem to arise when I upgraded to 15.6 from 15.5...

None of the listed fixes have made any impact

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, IPad Mini and iPad Air, both running 15.4.1. Restarting both IPads seems to fix the issue, but 24 hours later it occurs again. I then need to go in to the Mail App, the emails are downloaded and the notifications shown. My iPhone seems to be working okay. I have multiple email addresses set up, the majority are Fetch with iCloud being Push. Push works okay. The issue has only started since the update to 15.4.

It is not just G-Mail, but other mails as well. I have also Bell Mail, Yahoo mail, and it does the same thing. It is clearly an Apple problem in that it started with iOS 15.4, and 15.4.1. It is resolved for a few days with a reboot of the phone but happens again in 2 to 3 days. I am hoping the problem will be resolved with iOS 15.5.

That's good to know—

On my latest call with Apple support (the callback where they told me to just ask Google support), I asked them plain and simple if there was any possibility that it was an issue with iOS / the Mail app / anything on Apple's end, and he said no.

Go figure.

The way they talked about it made it seem like it was just a Gmail problem, which clearly isn't true based on what you just said.

I'm guessing that all they did was check the log data, and didn't care at all to consider the possibility that it is a more widespread issue stemming from the iOS 15.4 update.

Here's hoping it gets resolved in the next update,

although I figured that me calling them and them forwarding the issue down the chain was how Apple became aware of such issues in the first place, but apparently not, so who knows if/when it will get fixed.

Same email fetching issue since the 15.4 update! I am very disappointed that Apple "washes their hands of the issue ". They certainly MUST know it is their fault. Not sure I will ever buy another Apple product again.

Has anyone had ANY LUCK with a fix?

I can't even find how to turn on/off the "low power" setting, as mentioned in the above comment!

Hoping Someone HERE can help, since Apple doesn't seem to care!!

Yep. I have exactly this same problem.

Clearly not limited to GMail (I don't even have GMail setup on the standard IOS Mail app as I use the GMail app).

I use the IOS Mail app for my Adam Internet/iiNet mail account only (which is a Fetch) and it stopped fetching from IOS15.4.1 update.

As others have reported, it will only fetch when one opens the Mail app and no longer fetches per time schedule.

From what I've read above it seems Apple has taken the standard response that it's not us it's <insert anyone but Apple here>
