Mail Will not Fetch since iOS 15.4 Update

Since the update iOS 15.4 my Apple mail on my iPhones and iPad won't fetch automatically, as before, even though it is set to fetch every 15 minutes (push is off). If I restart the device it will work for about a day then stop, until I restart again. Is there a fix other than constantly restarting?

Update re my post above.

Spent some time on the phone with Apple support & was directed to remove the mail account and recreate it.

Did so & initially it made no difference but later that day I found that the Mail app would now fetch and the notification badges reappeared.

So far it is still working as it used to, well over the 24 hours some have reported.

Hoping it stays that way.

It’s an IMAP account if it makes any difference to others setups.

Cheers

I update over cell service. I found a website that talked about Focus Mode causing issues with the mail app. I turned off Focus and my email immediately started working again. I seem to recall focus mode was introduced for iOS 15. I am checking see if this might be a cause.

I was searching Apple support and came across this post about issues with iPad Apple mail. iPad mail app - Apple Community It might explain what is going on.

I have turned off my gmail account 2-step verification.

I was forwarding my gmail to icloud so I would at least know when mail would arrive. I did turn off Private Relay in icloud settings too.

So far the mail app is fetching again every 15 minutes for two gmail accounts.

I've been going through the same problem. After spending a week talking to my mail server tech support, 6 Apple Senior Advisors, going to the Genius Bar twice last week, Apple says they cannot do anything about it. After a lot of trouble shooting, I found that my iCloud account does fetch properly, so my workaround for the time being is to forward my third party server mail to my iCloud account.

I had the same issue with my email not fetching in 15 minute intervals. I think I may have stumbled into a fix for this. I “disconnected/forget this network” on my Wi-Fi on both my iPad and iPhone and rebooted both since I was having the same issue with email on both of them, I then re-logged into my Wi-Fi and it has working fine sine then. Hope this helps…

I did find this may help in the meantime..

For some reason the Notifications for mail were turned off and set to badges only.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Mail > Customise Notifications

Select the account in question

Ensure 'Alerts' is checked. (I have four Gmail accounts and they were all toggled off, I assume during the update?)

I sent a test email and it came through within 9 minutes with the notification popup.

Hope it is something as simple as this, but I doubt it.

It is not just G-Mail, but other mails as well. I have also Bell Mail, Yahoo mail, and it does the same thing. It is clearly an Apple problem in that it started with iOS 15.4, and 15.4.1. It is resolved for a few days with a reboot of the phone but happens again in 2 to 3 days. I am hoping the problem will be resolved with iOS 15.5.

That's good to know—

On my latest call with Apple support (the callback where they told me to just ask Google support), I asked them plain and simple if there was any possibility that it was an issue with iOS / the Mail app / anything on Apple's end, and he said no.

Go figure.

The way they talked about it made it seem like it was just a Gmail problem, which clearly isn't true based on what you just said.

I'm guessing that all they did was check the log data, and didn't care at all to consider the possibility that it is a more widespread issue stemming from the iOS 15.4 update.

Here's hoping it gets resolved in the next update,

although I figured that me calling them and them forwarding the issue down the chain was how Apple became aware of such issues in the first place, but apparently not, so who knows if/when it will get fixed.

This is has been really frustrating for sure. Apple doesn't seem to acknowledge the issue nor resolve it either. I have several Gmail accounts that has been affected. What I have done was to try to have some sort of control over the problem was to forward my emails to my iCloud account. I would than receive the iCloud emails on my iPhone in addition to Gmail. iCloud is pushed and is working, so at least I am getting email whether or not Gmail is received. Right now I am not really interested in changing from Gmail as I setup my Gmail accounts last year. Maybe this might help in the interim.
