AirPods max not responding at all

i have a set of AirPods Max and they have been becoming increasingly temperamental with turning on. This evening I can’t even get a status light to show. They appear completely dead but I’m unsure why. They never leave the house but I do use them pretty much every day. They’re about 2 months out of the one year warranty so I’d like to try get them working if possible. Any ideas or hints? I’ve tried holding the buttons down for a reset but just get no response at all and I’m not sure what else to try.
