Screen recording with app sound problem (Monterey 12.3)

Hello guys,

good you are all here for support. After few months when I am using back mac os x and Apple I met a problem with screen recording, before it was a little bit easier, why it's so weird now.

Here it is:

  • Problem: need record video as a part or whole screen with running application, for example it's a game, my own in Unity
  • Solution I need: very important - this is a recording working application with sound, all what is in MacBook Pro speakers NOT FROM microphone, so in settings I just switch off mic for sue "None", very clear, but...
  • recorded video from screen in Quicktime (Command+Shift+5) is only video without any sound
  • when I try this with microphone... of course all noises and mic sound is recorded but not in-app sound, why it is very simple (in Windows)
  • I really need to show someone my effects in Unity but it must be with sound not just silence and video or my breath from microphone
  • of course when I try with microphone there is still no in-app sound, only mic

For sure, I try many suggestions about sound and screen recording with Apple manuals included but this is not it. I don't understand why every one talking about microphone - this is not a problem, problem is with recording screen like game with it own sound, music and action, not microphone!

Any help in this area or again Apple screwup and need download something?

Thanks in advance

Dav

to record the mac's internal sound with quicktime you need additional software. i use the free BlackHole Virtual Audio Driver. then you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" in the recording options instead of "Built-in Microphone."

you will also need to set up a multi-output device in your audio MIDI setup utility to be able to both hear and record the internal audio at the same time.

to set up a multi-output device:

Open Audio MIDI Setup: (found in /Applications/Utilities)

hit the '+' button in the bottom left corner and select "Create Multi Output Device"

then in the panel that appears on the right, in the Multi-Output Device tab, select "Built-in Output" AND "BlackHole 2ch". (and, if you want, any of your other connected devices.)

once you do that, (and BEFORE recording) you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" or "Multi-Output Device" in your menubar "sound options".

to both hear the speakers and record the audio at the same time, choose "Multi-Output Device". before choosing multi-out, set the internal speakers' volume to a comfortable level first. you cannot control the volume once you are in multi-out mode.
