About this Mac RAM Memory

I never noticed this before on my current iMac or previous one or that matter but "About this Mac" shows I have 40Gb of RAM and when I look at the "Memory" tab it show 40 Gb installed but the rest of the info looks strange. Why doesn't it just show me what is installed in each of the slot?

Did this ever happen before installing Monterey or is it new with Monterey?


From the "About" window, click on "System Report..." to open the built-in System Information app. When SI is open, find "Memory" in the left-hand list of contents. See if that shows how the RAM slots are populated:



(that is from Mojave but should be similar inf Monterey)


For security reasons in future posts, please redact your serial number from "About.,," windows before posting. For the benefit of other contributors here, I have done so for you because the Mods will remove the second screenshot you posted.
