Time Capsule and MacBook Pro
i think my questions are easy. A little history first followed by 3 questions.
i Have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, 8gb Ram 1tb storage, original drive was HDD, I had only 1 User / Admin named (bikeman five) 6 years later in 2018 my 2012 MBPro HDD drive died. Apple Genius Bar put in a 1tb SATA drive with new Administrator / User Named (Roscoe). I came home, logged into (Roscoe) & restored my 2012 MBPro with a Backup from my 2 tb Time Capsule 5th generation SATA drive, that i purchased on 8/2016. When done I went to log in & there was 2 users, both Administrators, my original user (bikeman five) & the a new user (Roscoe). I only logged into (Roscoe) the new user, a 2nd time, none of my stuff was there. I switched users logged into my old user / Admin (bikeman five) & all my stuff was there. My 2012 MBPro ran great & still does to this day, Im using it now.
When Big Sur Came out it's only available for 2013 MBPro & newer. However I am still getting Catalina Security Updates & App Updates, my 2012 MBPro is running great. I use Microsoft Office 2019 95% of the time. 3 weeks ago I went into (Numbers) it would not open. A banner came up saying it will only open with Big Sur OS or Monterey OS, I need to update my OS to either of those 2. I cant go further than Catalina on my mid 2012 MBPro. I then I tried other apps 1/2 my apps would not work with Catalina OS. I decided it was time for something new, 3 weeks ago I purchased a 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max 32 gb Ram & 2 tb of storage at $3899.00. I get my new 2021 MBPro on 4/29/2022. In preparation I decided I was going to remove all the junk from my 2012 MBPro that i did not use or want on my new MBPro. Such as MS Office 2010 & 2016 a bunch of apps I installed & never I deleted all that junk I didnt want including (Roscoe) the Admin / User that I never logged into except twice my first day with the new hard drive . All the crap i removed nothing form the library was 42 gb of crap. Now my 2012 MBPro (bikeman five) will not back up to the Time Capsule it won't go past "preparing". I found that i out because I entered Time Machine to retrieve 1 very old email i wanted to keep. When I entered Time Machine it opened as it always did. When I tried to pick a previous Backup, it shows all of them available, my oldest Backup 3/23/2018 & my newest Backup 3/29/2022 11pm and everything in between those dates. I thought it was all backed up under my original user (bikeman five) as i never went into user acct (Roscoe) except 2 times that first day.
In Time Machine It will not let me select anything i see nor can i scroll from 3/29/2022 to 3/3/2018. It does show 5 attempts that it tried backing up today i can scroll over them, i can put my pointer over them, they expand like as i move the pointer over them, i can see all 5 times & they are all blank white sheets and i can not select them when i hover over & they expand. I can see all the old back ups i just cant get past my last Backup which is blank. Its obvious this is due to deleting the Admin/ user (Roscoe) that Genius bar set up.).
My 2012 MBPro has every on it that i want to keep since the day i bought it in 2012. It currently has 540gb on the drive with 460gb available. I always needed a spare 2nd Backup. Incase my original, Time Capsule, fails, gets damaged or stolen.
Questions:
1) My Plan is to buy another bigger Time Capsule and Backup this 2012 MBPro onto the new Time Capsule. When that is successfully Backed up, I will load that onto my new 2021 MBPro. Make sure both pros are all good. The 2021 will then be identical duplicate to the 2012 except it will be Monterey OS. Which is always the way I wanted my MBPro just 1 user/ Admin. That Leaves me with both MBPros backed up on a new Time Capsule. I will then factory reset my old time Time Capsule and back that up from the new Time Capsule. This leaves me with 4 identical Back ups. I will take my new time capsule to work so they are in different locations. Then which ever MBPro i have at either place will always Backup. That leaves me with 2 Back ups at 2 locations, that are both synced to my MBPro's
Does this sound like the best way to resolve my issue?
2) Do SATA drives last Longer than HDD drive? I believe SATA drive is Digital no moving parts, if so what is average life span?
3) My old time capsule oldest Backup is 3/3/2018, Lets say I didnt delete (Roscoe) from my 2012 MBPro. Everything was still running normal here. When i got my new 2021 MBPro M1 Max on 4/29/22 and Migrated my back up to the new 2021 MBPro, would my new MBPro be identical to my 2012 and have all my photos and documents all the way back to 2012 or would only go back to 3/3/2018?
Sorry for the long history i did not expect it to be so long of an explanation.
thanks in advance.
thanks,
