mounting 1 partition of external drive

I have an external drive with 3 partitions, each in its own non encrypted container APSF Big Sur container.

How do I plug in the drive and have just 1 drive mount when it is plugged in to a MB Pro?

I used to be able to do this (can't get it going again), but recently reformatted the drive, and all 3 partitions show up. I ejected 2 of the 3 in DU leaving the 3rd and unmounted it, unplugged drive and replugged all 3 showed up.

Hi,

Default, as you know, is to auto-mount everything, and there is no built-in setting to just change it.

Did you use a Terminal command in the past with Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? https://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/11/24/prevent-partitions-from-mounting-mac/

That would explain why it no longer works if you changed to APFS. You may be able to do it with APFS, but the following refers to High Sierra: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/310574/how-to-prevent-auto-mounting-of-a-volume-in-macos-high-sierra
