Moved a psd file and now it will not open

Moved a psd file to my WD hardrive and now I can't see the file. I have to search the hardrive for it and when I find it and click open I get " The alias "file name" can't be opened because the original item can't be found." However nothing about the files info suggests it is an alias. I never created one for this file. I've tried rebooting in safe mode and that did nothing.

The worst part is after I moved it I checked the file and everything was okay so I deleted the copy on my mac and i've since emptied the trash. Is there any hope or trick to fix this issue.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

If you're not careful, it's easy to create and copy an alias and not copy the actual file.

Or, you're trying to open it with an alias that thinks the file is in its original location. Either open the file itself, or create a new alias in the new location.
