Old U.K. phone & new Greek Sim

I have an old iPhone which I’ve removed from my iCloud account in the UK. I now want to use this whilst I’m in Greece. What do I need to do to use a Greek Sim in this old iPhone of mine from the UK. The Sim won’t activate & the network provider in Greece says it’s locked. Help please!

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

The Apple ID used doesn't matter. You can use whatever Apple ID you want. But in order to use a carrier-locked phone with another carrier, you would need to get it unlocked by the carrier. Some carriers do that automatically while others require a request.

What phone carrier was it locked to? The following gives a guide on how it works. If you have a contract you might need to have fulfilled it.
