Hi Red Erik,

If you'd like to know more about password-protecting your hard drives, this information might help.

If you're using the built-in Mac tools, encryption is an automatic feature of password-protecting a hard drive.

When you format an internal or external storage device, you can encrypt and protect it with a password.

The information above is from Encrypt and protect a storage device with a password in Disk Utility on Mac.

However, depending on your hard drive manufacturer, they may have options to password-protect your drive without encryption directly through the hard drive. In most cases, you can check out the website of the hard drive manufacturer for more information. If you can't find it, send along the device model and name of the original equipment manufacturer (brand name), and we'll try and search for a link with information or instructions for you.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!
