Apple TV can’t connect to wifi error -100

Hi,

suddenly my 2nd gen Apple TV can’t connect to my new Fios wifi.

it was working last week but I installed a Verizon wifi extender and since then it can’t connect

through settings>general>network>wifi my network shows up, but when I try to connect it goes straight to an error page saying the password is incorrect (error -100). There is no opportunity to re-enter the password. (Which hasn’t changed anyway)

I don’t have the option to forget the network

i already factory reset the Apple TV, restarted it, updated to latest firmware via phone hotspot, unplugged it for extended time, restarted the Fios router, deleted the Apple TV from the wifi network, changed the network name, bla bla bla.

it seems like other people have this issue.

is there a fix?

Verify that your access point doesn’t require WPA3, or older hardware may not be able to connect.

Only the 4K models support WPA3.

Apple is no longer pushing updates to gen 2. The last vs was 6.2.1.

Here's an overview about wifi connecting - you can "forget the network" to enable a way to re-enter it.

actually this help page does not accurately reflect what I am seeing. There is no option to ‘forget’ the network when clicking on the network name. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s not currently connected or if there’s a glitch in the OS, or if I’m just missing something obvious. I have tried like every combination of buttons

On the Apple TV menu, go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi. Select your current Wi-Fi network and click Forget Network. Press Menu or the Back button on your Apple TV Remote. Then select Network again and select your Wi-Fi network to connect.

I am looking into the other thing, the network type.

I checked, WPA2/WPA3 is enabled (the other option is WPA3 only)

there are several other devices on the network using 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11n
