Magic Mouse suddenly lost connection and displays "connection rejected" by Mac mini

magic keyboard works, trackpad works but Magic Mouse will not connect.

The Magic Mouse does connect with a MacBook Air, shows 81% battery.

I tried turning off the MacMini bluetooth and magic mouse bluetooth and restarting but the mouse will not connect. I unpaired the Magic Mouse with the MacBook Air, no difference.

There are no other Bluetooth devices in range except for an iPhone.

The Magic Mouse is a couple months old.

Mac mini, macOS 12.2
