I just got a new iPhone from work, have wiped/reset my old iPhone 12 mini and am trying to set it up for my wife to replace her old iPhone 8+. During the configuration/transfer process, it is stuck on “preparing update” after it downloaded iOS 15.4.1. I have restarted several times, but the process keeps hanging at the same stage… what can I do?

What time period are we talking about here? What does “hanging” mean in terms of minutes? You should allow at least 15 minutes for the preparation, and that’s if you have a strong, fast wi-fi signal.
You need no VPN, no anti-virus, no Hotspot.
Stuck for how long?
It can take some time. If you restart it before it finishes, it has to start all over again.
Mine took 20 minutes
