I have a couple of the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters. My main one no longer passes power through the USB-C port, but the USB-A and the HDMI work just fine. I swapped in another USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and it works great. I also plugged the bad one directly into a USB-C PD charger and it didn't pass power to the device plugged into it.
Anyone else have this $70 dongle just quit passing power but not totally fail?
FYI, the multiport adapter does not allow the full power of the charger through to the laptop. Some of the charger's power is always diverted to the other ports of the multiport adapter. I've seen the issue even when no accessories are connected to the multiport adapter.
Good to know and definitely makes sense. My MacBook Pro rarely leaves my desk, so hovering at 75-80% battery is usually fine for me. I wonder if the draw that the other stuff plugged in over time is what wore that port out.
I haven't, but all devices can and do fail; cost is not always a factor in longevity.
