Can’t delete voice memos data from iPhone Xs

There’s a mysterious file in iPhone Storage with 15GB that simply refuses to delete. It seems to be the voice memos files, although I removed that app. Any advice? I want those off my phone and stored only in iCloud.

iPhone XS, iOS 15

I am having the same issue where I actually deleted all the recordings on my voice memos app AND I deleted the app itself, but it still takes up 31 GB of space in Documents and Data. Before I deleted the app, I disabled connection to iCloud as well. It still remains in General > iPhone Storage and is called "com.apple.VoiceMemos" with a cloud and downward arrow next to it. Also, when I click on this name, it still gives me the option to "Delete App" but the name keeps on returning a few seconds after clicking it again. Please let me know what solutions are available to clear up this space.

This has got to be a misreading of data on the iphone’s side. I have the same issue but 66GB on my 64GB 11 pro max. Obviously that’s impossible, I think at least, and it doesn’t impede my phone’s function besides the fact that it won’t let me download any apps or data. This is a huge nuisance. I have tried all of the other solutions in this thread and none have worked. I think this is a software issue. Please look into it apple, I would greatly appreciate it. Peace.

Hey there, cleesi!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

Have you had a chance to reinstall Voice Memos and see if you can manually delete any data from inside that app? It's possible that the app has been deleted but for some reason, some data has been left on the device. If you haven't tried that yet, we'd advise doing so and seeing if it helps resolve this issue for you.

Another good step would be rebooting your iPhone and then checking storage again to see if that helps refresh the data allotment information.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

The cloud icon with the downward-pointing arrow indicates items that are being downloaded from iCloud to your phone. Turn off iCloud syncing for the Voice Memos app before deleting the app to remove them from your Phone.

Settings -> Apple ID -> iCloud -> Voice Memos -> set to OFF.

Then delete the Voice Memos app.
