Increase bootcamp partition size on mac mini using old toshiba hdd usb drive ?

I'm running bootcamp on a mac mini 2018. The mini has 128 GB storage with 75 GB on the bootcamp partition and I would like to increase that. Would an external toshiba hard drive (2TB HDD usb) work or should I get a new SSD drive? I guess the latter, but am checking in hopes of saving a few shekels. Will appreciate any advice. Thanks. Fred

I am currently running Boot Camp on a mac mini 2018 that has 128 GB storage. The Boot Camp partition is 75 GB and is having problems because of storage limitations. I am getting a 500 GB SSD drive to address this. Windows 10 and all my other apps are in the Boot Camp partition and I would like to move that partition wholly onto the SSD drive without losing apps or data. I expect that would leave the mini’s 128 GB for the mac OS. If I do that, will Boot Camp boot off of the SSD? BobTheFisherman has advised the neither Boot Camp or Microsoft supports installing Windows on an SSD, but I understand that increasing the Boot Camp partition allocation would work. I would appreciate input as to the advisability of this approach. Thanks in advance. Fred
