Voice Memos Taking Up Significant Storage

Hello Kobozo,

After you deleted the Voice Memos, did you clear them out of the Recently Deleted folder as well? If not, they'll still take up space until they automatically clear out of that folder in 30 days.

In the Voice Memos app select the back button at the top left and see if you have a Recently Deleted folder showing. If you do, and there's items in there you'll want to clear them out to free up that space.

I SOLVED IT ON MY IPHONE WITH THE FOLLOWING STEPS!! :)

After months trying to fix the voice memos app being to heavy issue, I came to a solution that helped me.

READ THROUGH ALL OF IT FIRST

Transferred all voice memos to computer for backup

Deleted the app

Turned off Voice Memos in iCloud storage settings

Re-installed the app making sure I didn’t enable iCloud on Voice Memos right away.

Went to Settings>Voice Memos>Clear Deleted>Immediately

Went to Voice Memos app and created a Voice Memo (this should be the only voice memo) and then deleted it immediately. After that, Voice Memos app was only a couple megabytes and then re activated iCloud.

You can try maybe just changing the setting in Voice Memo to Clear Deleted Immediately before deleting anything, then create a voice memo and dele it and see what happens. If nothing happens, then go for all of the steps. I hope this helps :)

I was able to help a customer out with this issue, not sure if it will work for yall

what we tried was we deleting all the voice memos, tried to off load the app even deleting the app and it was still stuck on the phone.

Since all that was not working what I did after was i went into the settings -> reset -> reset all SETTINGS. NOT FACTORY RESETTING.

it is annoying that it will remove your Face ID, background, passcodes, blue tooth, wifi stuff, etc things related to your settings only.

Go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, Voice Memos, then select [Delete App] - that is the only way I've found to get rid of the old Voice Memos...otherwise, they stay in memory as "Deleted", but they're still there. After you've verified that there is no more storage taken by the Voice Memo app AND RECORDED FILES, you can go back to the App Store and reload the Voice Memo app.

This is the data file com.apple.voicememos that’s synced through iCloud. If you wanna get rid of it, here are the steps:

1. reinstall voice memos app
2. go to setting > icloud storage > toggle off Voice Memos
3. delete Voice Memos app

 Go into settings, general, transfer or reset iPhone, reset, reset all settings

Hi - this worked for me:

1) If you use icloud to backup voice memos try toggling voice memo icloud switch off in icloud settings.

2) Restart.

3) Check your usage in iphone storage settings. It should be accurate again.

Deleting App and reinstalling worked finally to release all memory!

The key for clearing cache and clearing space misteriosly taken by Voice Memos is DELETING app and then REINSTALING it. It is the same for instagram and others. You are welcome

I tried deleting the Voice Memo app and resetting all settings, and bam the stupid 744 GB went away. I can finally back up and transfer data to my new phone. It’s definitely worth a try y’all.

I deleted the app, reinstalled it with other icloud ID and the problem was solved! Then you can delete and install once again with your own ID.

Hi! I am still using IPhone SE from 2013 year, but that not the case I had the same problem with voice recorder. But I solved it by doing - go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Setting. And that what happened after..recordings which was on phone hidden, showed up.

Update your iOs to 16.2 and your voice memo bug will be over! It just worked in mine! All the best!
